Writing a periodic column is a great marketing strategy.

A column, like a book, is powerful positioning tool.

When your name and photo appear week after week, you build your reputation as an expert within your niche.

When it comes to buying, your name will be foremost on your customers mind.

You will also be perceived as superior to your competitors, as you're the person who writes that column.

A news or informational column are not perceived as an ad, and therefore, turns off the mental ad filter.

It can be tough getting a newspaper or magazine to agree to run your column, as publishers hate handing out free ink, so to speak, if it is a blatant attempt to plug your business.

Therefore, ensure that you produce honest and content rich columns, that provide solid information that your readers can use, or will be entertained by.

If you offer your column for free, you both get something out of the deal.
