The Fancy Website Name

I want to write this article and Lord, I hope it will prevent someone from making a big mistake.

We all come to WA with hopes and dreams of starting a good internet business that will be successful. It is exciting to start all the training and see that we can make a dream come true.Everyone wants to get started on their site and get things going. .

There are a few things I have learned in the process. I keep seeing something that really bothers me. I see what I think is a mistake that others are about to make. I see this with so many Newbies. The mistake I am talking about is in choosing their website name.

I see many who want some flashy or fancy name for their website. I have even seen some that want to use foreign words because it sounds good. It may sound cute, but will it sell or bring in business? How are you going to advertise that name?

You can have the fancy name but have no business, Is that what you want? It's your choice. I keep telling people they need to do their homework. Do a keyword search of the site name. Find out if there are other websites with that name or similar. Find out if there is competition already using the name.

Think about who you are going to appeal or Market too. Who is your audience and what are they searching for on the internet?

Make the site name relevant to your niche. Once you buy a domain and name it, you cannot change it. YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT! A flashy or fancy name can kill you in the internet business and kill your site.

I think I am saying, "Use the tools here that works. This will be a big part of your foundation you are building on. Do you want your site to be found on the internet? How do you want your site to be ranked in search engines?

If you are here with WA then you have made an investment. Why would anyone invest in a site that will start with an uphill battle? I think you want the best and the most for your money.

Here is an example: 2 months ago I wrote a post that I really wanted to write. I felt deeply about the subject. I felt it was good content, but I gave the post the wrong name. I named it: My 50% of Love. No one is on the internet searching for that. The post was worthless. Google crawled my site and of course ranked me very low on it.

I was able to go back and rewrite the post and change the name. If you make this mistake in naming a website, you cannot go back and change anything. This is why I said a fancy or flashy name can kill you or have a site with no business.

Please understand, I am angry at no one. I do care about the people and community here. That is why I am writing this article. I want to see everyone succeed and be successful. You have to PLAN for success, it just does not happen. Naming your site and setting your foundation is vital to any success on the internet.

I am suggesting that you take your time and do it right. Find out what works and what will be beneficial in the long run for you. When we are new, we do not know what works with the internet. Rely on others for help. I DO.

Make it practical and relevant. As much as possible, keep it simple. Do your homework, discover what works and what does not work. Please do not jump at a site name because you think it is KOOL. Yes, I have seen the post where people have said, I chose my site name because it was Cool. Cool may not translate into cash!

If I am wrong in this post, then please tell me and I will delete it. If it helps one person then it is worth it.

I think this was a good post and I wish I would have read it before I chose the name I have. Where I still kind of like the name I chose, I just wish I would have researched it a bit more. Thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you for the comment. We all learn from each other.

Great insight for new people. Picking a name is sometimes difficult so thanks for sharing your experience. ~Debbi

Thank you Sui, I hope it will prevent someone from getting a site that will be dead in the water because they just had to have a slick name.

This is wonderful of you to share this experience so others can learn from it!

Thank you for your kind words. We are here to help each other. It is pay it forward. I have been helped by so many. Stay in touch.

I agree with you completely and I will! :)

Great advice!

Yes, that is advice I missed the first days here and naming my websites, do a keyword search on the name!

Simply because I didn't know anything on keywords or something related to it, I have struggled over this keyword issue many weeks.
It didnot seem to settle in my mind, what the meaning was of keywords.

I didn't know nothing about building websites at all, and was truly overwelmed with knowledge I didn't understand, especially because I had to use Google translate frequently, to get the message.

That advice should be thouroughly given in the lesson about the set up your website in 3 steps.

Thanks, you gave me an idea to write a clear blog on my website about this.

Loes

I've only put up 2 sites so far, and yes, I agree with all you're advising. The first site I put up is pretty much useless, because the name is too generic, and not really pointed to a specific target market. The 2nd one, which I put up a couple months later, is doing much better, I had learned enough by the time I picked that name, to do a more thorough research and due diligence before just tossing something out there that happens to sound catchy to me, lol.

Good info and thanks for sharing

So true, very important information for everyone. Thank-you. No don't delete this post, very beneficial.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope it will keep others from making a big mistake.

I don't believe there will be a need for you to delete your post as you are right on point. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the comment. I hate to see Newbies make a big mistake that will cost them.

In your first sentence I would replace the word help with prevent. This would avoid unnecessary confusion.
Any website name should either be brandable or memorable, preferably both. This is more important than having a keyword in it. Cheers, Jerry

Thank you Jerry!
