Election Day (In the U.S.)
Anyone voting today? I have yet to vote in a non-presidential election (I'm only 21 so give me a break). I think I may go down today and vote. If you don't vote, you can't complain! Voting is the number 1 right we have, and if you want your voice heard ya gotta vote!
Also, I wanted to connect this thought to WA. So, basically we're all lucky that we don't have to vote to have our voice heard here at WA, all you have to do is blog or ask a question and people will see it!

Hey Buck; I live in Australia and our "right" to vote is mandatory. We get fined if we don't vote.
Wow that's pretty intense. I can't believe I didn't know that, how do you feel about that?
I prefer your system. Where people who do vote actually know "why".
Where people that have the enthusiasm like you can motivate people by educating them so there is a purpose. We on the other hand (not all of us) go along to a Polling Both and tick a bunch of papers. Those that really don't vote just scribble on the page fold it in two/three and put it in the Ballot Box. They call it a "donkey" vote. When it all boils down to it both our countries are run by nameless bureaucratizes not the people we vote in. My opinion!
Got up bright and early today and cast mine. It's very important! Anybody from Florida? If so, please vote YES on Amendment 2! It's time we came out of the Dark Ages!
On the other hand I've voted in every election since 1972. Everyone, of course, is entitled to their own opinion about voting. But I feel you either vote by voting or vote by not voting. I'd rather at least give it a try. Yes, I voted as this election is for control of the senate. To each his own. :)
I'm 44 and I've never voted! I know it's a cute cliche' to say "If you don't vote you can't complain." However, it is not we non-voters who put these idiots in office. It's the voters!
I've become pretty cynical of the whole process. I'm not one of those conspiracy theorists, but I doubt the honesty of the entire process.
Unfortunately it's usually a choice between two people that are probably lying anyway. And I wasn't trying to be cliche, that actually is true. Sure you can still complain because no one can stop you, but the reality is your complaints aren't justified because you didn't do anything to stop what you think is wrong.
You're right, it is usually a choice between the lesser of two evils. I wasn't trying to be argumentative with my "cliche" remark. It just never made sense to me :)
No problem man, that's what I thought at first but it's all good. Tone can be tough to read online sometimes
Interesting point of view. I have only voted twice in my life and I understand where you are coming from. Most people that vote don't even understand the background of the person they are voting for or they just vote across the board, democrat or republican...:))
You kind of indirectly put these guys in office by not voting. It is not always honest, as we've seen here in Florida, but better to vote than not. Hell, can't hurt ya!
You see, I don't follow that logic. If NOBODY voted, who is responsible for who is elected in that case?
I just like to challenge the way people think about things :)
Let's leave it up to government. That's exactly how they want you to think. It's your choice, though. To each his own:)

Thankfully all those ads can now STOP. They're all so horrible -- they just bash each other instead of addressing the issues. You're very right though.......you don't vote, you don't complain. :-)
Yeah this has been one of the worst years for negative campaigning that I've seen so far, definitely a huge plus for elections to be over
