The Slow Building Approach

Hey WA Community,

Haven't been around the community much lately, but wanted to share some thoughts and a mindset I've recently adopted that might help people who are on the verge of giving up.

If you have been in the community for a few months you've probably heard the answer to the question that most people have... When can I start making money?

I will go ahead and give you the answer again. It's different for everyone. It all matters on how much work you put into your site and how quick of a learner you are.

It took me 3 months to earn my first dollar online, some it takes a month, and some a year it really just depends on tons of variables.

Once you earn your first dollar and have your first sale it's really all about scaling and continuing to build, which brings me to the purpose of this post.

I've came near giving up a few times over the last year and it's all because I've expected the scaling of my website to skyrocket, almost looking for my big break that would bring in thousands of visitors to my site a day.

For me this hasn't happened yet, and I don't know if it ever will.

What I know has and will continue to happen is a steady growth each month. Nothing to blow your socks off, but changes that prove that what I'm doing is working.

That leads me to my new approach. I'm still very young and lucky enough to have got an early start. I already have a career which I'm okay with for the time being. (I know everyone's situation is not the same)

My new approach is stop waiting for that huge result, but be satisfied with putting the work in and know that in a few years...I'd still be under 25 I can have built something great.

I'm taking the approach that although income isn't huge, it's still there and growing every month. If I continue putting in the work over time this is going to continue to grow all I need to do is keep with it.

Don't let short term failures lead to discouragement and look at the bigger picture. If you have seen any success you know this is possible. Now put in the work and stop stressing about day to day results.

It will all work out as long as you continue to grow your website with more great content.

Thanks for reading and I know everyone situation isn't the same as mine, but I'd love to hear thoughts from everyone else!

Brok

Hi Brok,

I have been recommended to read your blog post. I am currently working full time, up to 60hrs a week and trying to fit in WA. I want what most people here want: to build a successful online business to be able to work from home. I was stressing how I can manage both! Reading your post helped put my mind a bit at ease!

Thank you!

Great advice!

OH, you changed yr profile pic, no wonder I couldn't recognise you, Brok, lol. ;)

It is so easy to just walk away from building our websites but just imagine, what will happen if we can give ourselves at least 1 to 2 years on this?

The mindset of most of us is to just quit when we see no results or growth in 3 to 6 months time. I think I will give myself at least 1 to 2 years ... because I had made money in the past on affiliate sales and I know it works!!

Thank you very much for always encouraging us, Brok!!

I've come close to giving up a few times myself, but I know it will take time. And all the encouragement I get from fellow members helps a great deal. Glad you're still here Brok:)

You are not giving up, dearest Jazmin, are you, lol?

No Jewel, I meant in the past. I'm not giving up my friend:)

It will come when you least expect it.

I really liked reading this. I've been here over a year now and haven't made my first affiliate dollar yet, but I still continue to work at it. Like you said, everyone has a different situation and people will make money at different times. I've been heavily researching email marketing recently and updating my website and am very close to implementing a plan I have for email marketing. I don't expect to make money right off the bat and know it will take time to develop a good quality list, but I do want to keep working at it. I don't want to give up.

After working on my first site I gave up on the skyrocketing notions. With my new site I took a calm approach, I havent even tried to monetize it yet. I want to build up a decent sized audience first, then go at it with the affiliate links and grow it slowly and steadily from there.

Great post and sound advice Brok. It will keep growing and by the time you're my age you'll have a nice pot! :)

Awesome Brok! Really enjoyed the message that you had to share with community, it is so true. I think many people come here disillusioned thinking that they will see millions in months coming in to WA, but you know that may usually not be the case. But that definitely isn't an acceptable reason to give up, you have to persists and push until you finally get the results that you are happy with. Thanks for the post :)

Yea, still waiting.
