Pray for the Best! Plan for the Worst

So it begins, WAmily!

Once again, we are bracing for this winter freeze.

Winter has hit everyone this year! Texas is NO different.

2 weeks ago, we expected another freeze. Those that suffered the consequences have learned "What to do" and "What Not to do".

My last blog spoke of scheduling and making plans. I suggested flexibility for when emergencies may arise.

Now, is the time to adjust!

Schools Close!!

Tonight, we should see freezing temperatures, and we also have precipitation.

Schools have early dismissal, that has already begun. Texas school buses on ice are a disaster waiting to happen.

This reminds me of those, oh so infrequent words, that kids loved to hear in Michigan!

Snow days were an unexpected treat!

Back then, there was plenty of snow!

Making snow angels, snowman, and igloos were great outside fun!

Walking to friend's home, building a fire in the fireplace, and hot chocolate were all pleasant new activities.

What to Do When Your World Stops?

Here, in Texas, I don't see creating snowmen or angels, but there is plenty I can do!

Today, is a Plan B Day!

My schedule is Plan A, but what I actually get to do is Plan B.

Thursdays are my "free" day.

So far today, I've taken care of business on the phone, read a quarter of my coveted new book, and will cover plants, after getting dressed for this weather.

My pet is secure and right here with me!

I'll venture out later, again, once dressed for the weather to go to grocery store for a few items.

Since, we expected this last week, I'm already, pretty well, prepared for any inconvenience.

I didn't plan to write a blog, today, but sometimes, I just pick up and computer and start.

If the Spirit moves you, do it!

This is one of my secrets of survival.

How often do you get an idea for an action, you feel you must take, and then just sit there?

For me, this is often!

What's happens? Here comes that nagging voice of the inner me, starting to scream, "Just do it!"

So here I am, just doing it!

I've been meaning to call some of my out-of-state friends, and work on my website. Now, I have the afternoon, and all of this evening to do as I wish.

This evening, I'll spend some time on a WA training and make a big batch of Macaroni and Cheese!

Time for Gratitude

Instead of fearing for loss, I will stay in Gratitude, knowing that whatever is going on, ...

"This too, shall pass!"

Last night, close to midnight, just 2 doors down there was a firetruck and soon after an ambulance. Not sure what was going on, but I'm sure it was not good for my neighbors.

Firetruck left, but ambulance was there for at least a half hour. As I went off to bedd, flashing lights still lit up my walls.

I went to sleep in gratitude, with a prayer for my neighbor.

Snow Days are always fun as a kid. No responsibilities, no worries, just go out and have fun. Get too cold come in for some hot chocolate and warm up at the fireplace.

So, with the kids all grown it no longer becomes fun. Time to move south, but how much farther south can you go than Texas?

At least it wont last long there, Barb. Just be careful dancing on the ice.

Archie
P.S. We did have sun all day but never got above 40F and the wind much colder than that. Might as well had snow to go with it.

Hey Archie, with snow sometimes it's not so bitter. We've had rain on and off all day. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get some by morning.
Dancing on the ice? Hmm... That could be a new experience! ...for someone much younger. LOL
Broken anything would really bring me down, ya think?? Ha!
Where did you have snow days? Michigan homes were well equipped;)
Barb

Snow days as a child growing up in Utah, Barb. Then in Connecticut there were quite a few but I was exempt from enjoying them since I was in the Navy then. My oldest son got the benefit since he was just starting school.
My next enjoyment of snow days was DOE and teaching in WV. We even had them worked into the contract.
Hope you are not part of the ice storm shown on the weather report. It dips pretty far south.
Archie

I'm thinking perhaps that could be Archie, though we aren't getting major alerts. Temp and rain? Good probability.
You've been around! Worse snow storm while driving was in Wyoming circa 1975. Broad daylight and couldn't see 5 feet ahead of us. Didn't want to stop either as there was nothing around!! Very eerie feeling.
Barb

I-80 Continues to get bad storms every year. I have driven through many up that way. Blizzard conditions.

Thanks, Barb, it was a nice post, especially as it was written off the cuff and on your free day. But as you say, when the mood strikes we should follow it and produce content if it is in there and must get out.

I agree, that I am in the way of myself most of the time, it has and still is taking me time and effort to reshape the way I feel about myself and what I do.

I have WA to thank for that and the people here in the platform.

Alex

Alex, it's part of training myself. If I think of something and either make a plan to do it, or just do it then, is the goal!
All projects begin as thoughts and just keeping a notebook and jotting ideas down, starts the process.
Did I say that is my goal? No there yet, but I seem to be listening more to my intuition, and going with the rhythm of life, a bit more everyday. Reshaping is a very good word!
That thought of regret is urging me onward:)
Yes, Alex, WA folks are the best!
Barb

Yep, that's the best way...be prepared for the unexpected, or in the case of weather tantrums, be prepared for the expected. Our expected has arrived...it's snowing HARD again. Looking out my window, I can only see out of 3/4 of it because the rest has a huge heap of snow in front of it.

My prayer is that my driveway gets plowed in the morning so I can go to Writer's Group. I can't go if no one can get in here to pick me up!

Ah, well, can't let a little snow stop us, can we?

Perhaps Writer's Group will be canceled, Fran.
Do you ever meet on Zoom.
My sister, in San Diego, still does Zoom meetings for many things. They're still worried about viruses.
Recovery meeting always go on, power or no power, someone has a key:)
Coffee, however is BYO!
Barb

Yes, if I can't get there by car, I'll attend on Zoom.

Love you always.
Paul from Canada.

You are so very special.

Gosh, Paul! Nice recap:)
Glad you liked it.
Barb

Ha! Yes, I used to live in very snowy parts, 1 metre plus typical, 3 metres and more at times.
Preparations always began in late summer, plenty of wood, plenty of coal, boxes and boxes of fire lighters, boxes of matches, fill the oil tanks, stock up on gas bottles, the list was endless.
And then nothing happened.
Oh well! It's best that way round. I could never understand why some people were surprised when it snowed, C'mon, every night for a week the TV has been warning us, you know its nearly Xmas because you're writing Xmas cards to friends and you KNOW it snows at Xmas.
Proper planning should be the norm.
Bux

As the Boy Scout say, "Be Prepared!"
If we don't need these things, they are there for next big ALERT!
Really folks! We been saying... LOL
Later, Dave
