The One Things Winners NEVER Do.

Do you remember Thomas Edison? The guy that perfected the light bulb? Something very interesting about that.. When he finally declared, "yes, I have invented the light bulb" he didn't necessarily get it on his first try.

In fact, he said specifically that he, "failed ten thousand times" before he finally had a finished product.

He was met with a thing that is called “temporary defeat”.

Temporary defeat is failing... losing… being unsuccessful...

But one thing Edison did not do was Give Up! Could you imagine where we would be if Edison just gave up? We wouldn’t have light bulbs!

So why was he successful, even though he failed over... and over... and over again?

No man is ever a failure until he quits…. in his own mind.

It is SO EASY to quit on the first sign of defeat. It is what MOST people do. Including myself. I have quit doing plenty of things in my life. Sometimes I picked it back up... other times I did not.

But our success only depends on our determination to NOT QUIT.

Failure is part of our game. I have only gotten where I am today, not by getting everything right… but by failing and screwing up, then screwing up less and less as time goes on.

I am a product of my own failures. Everyone is.

The question is, are you going to take the easy way out and call it quits in your mind.

No one that expects any kind of success can reasonably expect to accumulate a fortune, be successful at business, change your life, without experiencing “temporary defeat”.

The key is... when defeat comes, accept it as a signal that what you are doing need to be adjusted and you TRY AGAIN.

Adjust your sails and move toward your goals, your dreams.

If you give up before your goal is reached... you are a “quitter”

Quitters never win and Winners never quit!

I guess in Thomas Edison’s case it was quite clear to him that he was temporarily defeated every time that that light bulb would not light up.
However, some of us do not have the insight to see the time has come to accept temporary defeat and temporarily retreat.
I have been blessed in life with someone who with wisdom and a gentle touch helps me sees when to stop.
I then go and sleep. Next morning if I feel better, I try to regain my strength, and give things another go.

Hey Chris,

Thomas Edison is someone whom I look up to and I’d like to share a few of his quotes.

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work…"

~ Jay

That was a surprise. I was thinking about that other thing that winners never do.

I agree with you completely. It's actually quite funny because just a few days ago, my parents asked me why I am so confident I'll succeed in online business. And I told them, "I'm not, I just know that every time I fail, I'll try again." Great post.

Good Post ! Always need to keep you eye on the goal...

Very true -- no one can quit for us. If we quit, we have lost all the progress we made. THEN we really fail. It is hard to keep going at times, but if we want to reach our goal, quitting is not an option.

Great post! This is the second motivational post after I read about Michael Jordan's success some time ago when he said:

"26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Thank you!

Well said Chris! Everyone has to learn to fail forward. The problem is we're taught at a very young age in school that failing is bad. So you build an adversity to it. When the reality is the way you learn and get better at life and business is to fail forward!

Michael Hyatt and John Maxwell talk about failing forward all the time and I agree with you on that.

Indeed

Great post Chris. Just remember, you only have to get up one more time than you fall!
Keep getting up!
Joe
