Gimmie Some Mon-aaay!
You know the song! I am at the stage where I am getting a tiny amount of traffic but no revenue!? Just to give you an idea; I've had just within the past few days 37 sessions, 22 new users about 6 min visit time 67% bounce rate out of those visitors maybe 3 to 4% came from social networking mostly Facebook the rest were direct hits.
Still no revenue.
The most popular articles are the Oatmeal, sunscreen product reviews and sunscreen had a return rate. It looks like my site is being used possibly as comparison shopping. Amazon is showing only 4% referral but that can be improved by including 7 or more products to increase it to 7% which puts me at an good target to start seeing some revenue if from referrals.
Ironically, I was gearing this site toward women but the men it turns out have a slight edge 47% are women about 52% are men, it's a fairly even target. The most ages are between 25 and 30 and very few older people. The readers are active and into sports. It would make sense that an organic sunscreen would be something that a health conscious sports enthusiast would be interested in.
I conclude using the 80/20 principle, 20% of my headache is social networking, I'd say "looky-loos"... but the 80% who came to my site directly were at some point in the buying process because part of my bounce rate resulted in those readers going to amazon.
I need to get those readers who are ready to buy. The "low hanging fruit", is a good way to go. I'm beginning to think that Facebook is great for hanging out with friends but not generating revenue. I have about 600 or more Facebook "friends"; out of all of those who visited my site were only 2%? Headache! It's not worth promoting the regular Best in Beauty site which has only 7 followers, I think it's a waste of time. with little traffic and no conversions or purchases is a time waster. Pinterest, I've yet to see numbers of those who have generated revenue because it's a new territory. I will keep the pins until further notice. That could be part of my bounce rate, maybe its taking them to places where they may buy something else? I have seen very little "pinning"...most guys aren't into pinning stuff. Again POSSIBLE headache!
Social networking! VERY skeptical on its effectiveness, at least for my demographic. I could spend a ton of time using social networking or I can devote my time to generating "buying readers" offering good and useful content geared toward THAT demographic and dump the looky-loos like a "cheap date"!
I'd rather devote to my direct hit traffic and generate more traffic by finding a solution that works for their concerns. That is my challenge this week. How do I take Organic Beauty to the level that will address those concerns for athletic, sports-minded people for both men and women? I can write all kinds of content, but I still need to bring home the bacon!

I feel like you do about the social networking. They keep saying content is the best way to get traffic. That is probably the best way.
Sweetie I hear you. It can seem frustrating at times. This morning I read a really good article that was just so true that might just help you to feel better about your situation. http://www.wadeharman.com/blog/throwing-away-mindset-making-money-online/ Here is the link I hope that it helps. This all takes time. In social media, the well-known word is: ENGAGE. Talk to your followers, your community. Treat them as your friends. And don't forget to have fun. :)
I post regularly and engage with friends...just don't get a lot of response on my posts. Had this facebook page for over 4 years? I have over 600 contacts Facebook friends....I like the 80/20 principle. My 20% is social networking where there isn't any traffic and my 80% where there are ACTUAL DIRECT "hits" to my website NOT as a result of social networking. I post my stuff and engage with my friends posts. I'm the doubting Thomas...chasing leads is a waste, let the customer come to YOU with "low hanging fruit" and good keywords..so far. That is working.
See, you're doing great already. Your back needs a pat from you, Laura. :) BTW, just visited your website. I like it so much. I left you a comment too. Keep it up. :)
You've answered a few of my doubts regarding social networking...Have to experiment on pin interest myself...
You are making good progress even if it does not seem like it I do not even get that just now, realized I missed something out.. I have decided against a fb page and am using g+ and twitter the social stuff as I have not personal link was using it for charity work originally and will use if for my site to, sure your success will increase
Don't get discouraged, you're making really good progress. You're looking at your numbers, and where your traffic is coming from, so it's all important info to figure out.
Facebook marketing is really tough. People are there to hang out, and unless you're really there to invest some real time to take advantage of FB marketing tools, it's probably not going to do you much good.
Men don't pin? Not a surprise. Over 60% of Pinterest's audience are women.
My suggestion on social media is if you're going to try and use it to get traffic, choose one platform and make it yours. They're all different, different demographics, audiences, and formats for posting. Learn just one in order to be effective.
What a great suggestion. Perhaps there is one where my demographic populates, that's the one I need. Facebook is getting too "stodgy" for some. I have an even amount of men and women on my site. They seem to be active, sports enthusiasts who are active and health conscious. There will be changes in my posts to gear to that 80%.
Hi Laura You are not the only one. I need to increase the traffic as well my is similar with the session maybe some days touch less . Way to low Let do a deal if will get the answer we help each other so we can both bring home the bacon. I love bacon. Take care and be well.

Don't be discouraged beachygirl53, you're doing fine. It all has to start somewhere and you are off to a great start. Also remember, Google is a kind of popularity contest. The closer you are to the popular ones the more popular you become by association. With in all the social sites you become part of and the more friends you get the more noticeable you will become to Google. There are 1.28 billion monthly active users as of the 1st quarter of 2014 (and that's only FB). Don't discount the social sites just yet, they will inevitably add to your success. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day and any good business won't be either. You've got business, site, content and product, now you just need to get the traffic. That is where you will shine. Just don't get inpatient and "Keep moving Forward". Good luck.
