Yesterday’s Achievement outside of Wealthy Affiliate

BackgroundIn April 2017 I began a program to loss weight. I had seen a picture of myself that projected an image I did not like. It was difficult for me to walk even short distances without becoming tired.

I had retired on 2005 and life changed to where I was less active and I loved those good ole chocolate candy bars. As you can imagine, the weight did not show up suddenly, but when I saw the picture I felt like it was a sudden change.

Part of the program involved exercise. As the numbers showing up on the scales went down my energy level went up and was finding walking enjoyable once again.

New Challenge

Jumping forward I became an interest in ‘Power Walking’ and entering 5K (Kilometer) races. Having had a total knee replacement meant no running. I entered my first 5K in April 2018 which was a benefit event. Finding it an enjoyable activity in July I entered my first 5K competitively and even though I came in with a rather long time of 59.44 minutes that I completed it got me hooked.

I completed in several 5k races and in several in placed second in my age group.

Yesterday

Today I entered my first 5k this year. It was cold and windy out on the Illinois (USA) prairie. Finished the race with a time of 49.44 minutes, 10 minute improvement in less than a year. Good for a fellow who will turn 80 in April if I say so myself.

Congratulations Barney - great to hear!!

I can only imagine your excitement as you approach the finish line. Although only 3 years younger than yourself, I walk every day over 5 k. Unfortunately there are no "Power Walking" opportunities where I live - but feel invigorated after the walk.
I also say " Age is only a number"

Congrats! That's a great achievement. Even more amazing with you turning 80 and with a knee replacement. Wow!

Congratulations Barney.

In another two weeks I will turn 83 and as I do a strenuous walk up a steep hill twice a week I can really appreciate your accomplishments.

No doubt you will continue competing in 5K events and I wish you every success.

Rolie actually one event coordinator is creating a new age category 80+. Most event stop at 60+.

You are already a winner in the 80+ category stick with the 60+ and go for being the best.
I know you can do it.

Cheers

A great achievement, Barry, well done!

That is awesome for someone that just turned 80 and that has had knee issues.

Wow... Congratulations Barney!

May you have a blessed week.

Yay! Proud of you, super proud for 80 years! Cheers AJ

Good for you, you are doing great. You have now inspired me. I'm going to try to do a few minutes of body grooving tonight. I do the old lady version - some in and a little out of my wheelchair. check it out on https://youtu.be/wq7ryQbiSHw

Koodos Barry! You're an inspiration. 24 yrs my senior and probably a goal I will never reach!!. Keep moving forward and don't look back.

Well done my affiliate friend. You are correct - this is a great achievement and you are justifiably chuffed with your success.

Achieving fitness goals is good for us and worth the effort.

Turn this into a fitness blog for like-minded people and make it work.

That is where part of my website it headed. Having difficulties getting it reconstructed to do what i invision.

Thanks for reading and commenting

That's brilliant, Barney. Well done.

Hopefully, you are now feeling pleased when you look in a mirror.

Very much so Phil.

Maybe you can explain what happened. When I wrote this article had sub-heading as 'H2' when it posted the 'H2' setting is not there and my first heading dropped down into text.

The posting app is less than perfect.

I've found the best way is to do the headings as regular text, but make sure they are separated by an Enter (blank line) before and after.

Then go back and click on each one (no need to select the whole heading, just click somewhere on it) and select the required heading, h2 or h3 or whatever.
