Hey Adam,
There's no hard and fast rule on this one. You have to put in as much time as you have available. Most of us here recommend putting as much time as possible into creating helpful content for your readers, and therefore creating the trust factor so that they in turn will consistently buy from you.
Sorry I don't have a magic bullet for you, but depending on the niche you go with will also have a factor on how quickly you'll profit. Again, I can't give you a definite time frame - but if you are consistently creating helpful content, then you should start seeing results around the 6 month mark. If you don't, then you have to really assess your site to see where you might be going wrong. It could be SEO factors or it could be the content itself.
Hope this is helpful to you and no doubt others will have some great answers for you as well.
Cheers,
Peter

I am not soley in the product review niche, but there are a lot of products in my niche that I do give reviews of. They are one option of many niches for you to consider.
Personally, I did not choose only a product review niche because that sounded boring to me. I want to write about more than just products, but ideas. I hope this helps.
