Kyle's WAbinar, and the Amazing 5 lessons I learned From It
I don't know about you, but I was so excited about Kyle teaching us in Jay's WAbinar last week. And it was truly amazing! Thank you Kyle.
So glad to see your face! And grateful for your time and sharing of expertise. And of course for having the vision with Carson, of creating Wealthy Affiliate.
I am now a part of Bo Tipton's group of 5 mentor group. I am both excited and nervous about keeping up! And so grateful.
For our first assignment he asked us to watch this video and find 5 things that would help us understand our journey here at WA.
So I watched it for the second time and here is what I took away. Not in any particular order.
1.How to Structure for Success. This is the concept that in order to build something it has to be built step by step. There is no skipping steps. And if we do skip steps we skip a brick that might be what will make our business fail. Every single process and step is built upon each other. So if we were bricklayers and left out a line of bricks, it would collapse. So it is true of building our online business.
When I was working with young kids at risk, I did an experiment with them. I wanted them to experience the concept of process. I had them build a cardboard house, over a period of weeks. And it was so eye opening to watch each child see the light bulb go off if a step was forgotten.The look on their faces when buildings were crooked or fell to the ground.
But they got the concept. And figured out what they needed to do to rectify the problem. Step by step. And the extreme joy and glow, they felt at their finished product. It was such a sense of building confidence and understanding. And an experience they will carry with them.
I think I learned more than they did doing this ! And it set a precedent for me understanding that everything is about process.
So it is with our business. Step by step.
Why are we hurrying off to the next process if we have not fully finished the process we are on?
What happens if we miss a step?
Are we willing to take that chance? I have to say, I am not.
I am making the vow to myself that I will honor the process.
So structuring for success as Kyle explains it, is step by step for the foundation of success. Not leaving out anything.
2. To make this entire process work, there is this simple understanding:
There is Me then Content then Reader.
I don't know about you, but i am awaiting thousands of people to just jump on my site. Right? But hearing Kyle saying this simple understanding, made a light bulb go off in my head.
If I can make the connection through my willingness for human connection and then provide quality content, if one person comes to my site, then that is how I can build authority.
So it just takes one person for several reasons. One, that it means I am doing something right. And two, it means that I am connecting with my niche. And three it means that if one comes, more will be coming, yes?
And well then, we are on our way to success.
But it is our willingness to be ready to provide great content, and human connection . That is the magic formula.
3. Our Websites are a Matching Game, Kyle used a phrase that spoke to me "hyper-relevance is key". In other words, if I am blogging about living in social consciousness but place an affiliate link about umm, icicles, grin. I am not giving relevant solutions to my blog.
And although I think we all know this on some level, I got it really smack in the face. In that if I am not providing both solution and relevancy, why should my readers even want to be on my site?
So matching products that speak directly and provide solution is how we determine hyper relevance.
As Kyle said, Hyper relevance is the key to our websites being a matching game for our readers. And therein also lies the concept of providing solution.
With each article we write, or I write, the question has to be how are we providing relevant solutions?
4. Low Hanging Fruit Keywords and long tail keywords, here is probably everyone's Achilles heel..grin...if we can get this understanding, we can really rank and score on the success model.
I did not realize that with long tail keywords the beauty is that it means there are many keywords within the long tail. Amazing way to find us over and over again, yes?
I know that I am going to be spending more time trying to really grasp this science of keywords. I have had some success with low hanging fruit keywords.
I am just so aware there is SO much more to grasp and learn. And I feel like its a new jargon that I must learn. Because if I can truly gain understanding of keywords, I am on the road to success. I wish us all well on this topic!
5. Time is How We Build Authority. Here we are back again at this vital point. At least for me. I am just entering my 5th month here. I am starting to see progress, but nothing that I can call great success .And that is just fine. Because when Kyle said that time is how we build authority, I got it.
Amazon took over 10 years before it made a profit. Now look at it.
And in that process of building authority, we have to be willing to build content that is communicated in easy to understand ways, and to always humanize the process.
Understand we are building a base for trust and communication. We are dealing with people who are looking for solutions and inspiration. It is up to us to slowly and with ethical understanding to be there to share information that will solve a problem. And to build site trust.
So do we have the ability to take that time and build ourselves the probability of our own success? I am fully committed to that.

I also teach kids and your story about making a cardboard house made me smile.
Are you familiar with Cuisenaire rods? I have a set and use them in some of my English classes for Japanese kindergarten and elementary school children. They love working together to build "Tokyo Tower," progressing from the orange 10cm rods, step by step, to the white 1cm cubes, which are a real challenge to pile up on the top!
Of course, they love loading on the last cube (if it gets that far) then smashing the thing to bits... that might be taking the analogy too far!

It is interesting to see the different interpretations of the same video. I have read 2 so far and I agree with what was said in both, but they were not the same. How is that possible?
I believe it has something to do with what Kyle was saying and you have alluded to here. It is the connection we forge between ourselves and our public that is important. Each person sees us differently and while we will connect with some we will not connect with all. Inherently we all know this on a personal level, it is why some people become our best friends and some acquaintances, but I had not thought to extend this to the online world.
However, now I know that this kind of analysis of content and personality is just a relevant online as offline.
Your Niche? What is it, where is it, why do you have it, who wants it and when do they want it? All of these questions need to be answered to satisfy our customer, not just ourselves. If we cannot satisfy ourselves then we will never satisfy our customer. Out niche is a bottomless well of material, that we must strive to continuously draw from and fill.
We can fill the well by following the process. It is that simple and that complex. There are no shortcuts.
I love the comment on long tail keywords, so simple - put your keywords in a long tail and let it fly like a kite. The winds of the net will pull it everywhere, and you will gain the benefit of multiple keyword searches out of that one long tail.
Lastly, one of the other things I got from Kyle's post was not to stress over everything too much. I think this was subtle and not really expounded upon, but it came through to me. If you work the system the system will work for you. But you do have to follow the plan.

The thing that makes the internet different from all other modern media is this: The other media is mass media, the relationship is one to many. The internet is one to one relationship on a mass scale. Even articles that attract thousands of readers need to be written as if they are one to one.
