On Friday Morning British time the news came out that Dame Maggie Smith had passed away peacefully in a London Hospital at age 89.

She is survived by her two sons and 5 grandchildren.

The movie world has lost a great legend they don’t’ have people of her calibre these days.

Although the cause of death has not been revealed yet Dame Maggie Smith did have some health issues over the years, including Breast cancer which she got the all-clear a couple of years ago.

But also suffered from other issues like glaucoma, and Graves’ disease along with having hip replacement surgery a few years ago.

Awards winning Actor

Maggie Smith is a British Actor and has received many accolades over her 70-year career both on stage and screen.

She has won two Academy Awards, 1 Tony, and 4 Emmys, but I am sure she should have won more in other roles.

Some may not know her older roles over the early years but two you may be familiar with.

Her incredible role as Violet Crawley also known as the Dowager Countess of Grantham.

Downton Abbey is a British TV period drama that lasted for six years however she also played the same role later once more in two movie series of the same name.

She won 3 Emmys for her role.

Those who may not be familiar with Downton Abbey would certainly know her as the famous and awesome role of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter Movie franchise.

She played a number of iconic characters across her 70-year career, including Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series.Professor McGonagall to the left

Dame Maggie Smith had an incredible role over the many years and was one of the many older people who still held their own in the movie industry, proving that old actors still have what it takes.

She gained new fame in the Harry Potter series with the younger generation.

This is certainly a sad loss to the stage and screen and although the curtain has gone down, Dame Maggie Smith will continue to inspire many actors and fans alike.

May she rest in peace, sending thoughts and love to her family and friends alike.

Rest in Peace Dame Maggie Smith

Indeed, a great loss, Andre.

There was also a wonderful kind of "real life" movie she made back in 2018 with Dame Judy Dench, Dame Eileen Atkins and Dame Joan Plowright called "Tea With The Dames". It was wonderful to hear them reminisce over their acting careers.

I remember her amazing performance in the 1969 film "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", for which she won the Academy Award.

Cheers, Jenni.

Great tribute, Andre! 👍👍😎

I had an elderly patient that was her doppelganger!

We watched the first Harry Potter movie again in tribute to her, and tonight we are watching "Tea With Mussolini."

Rock On! 🤘🎹

Certainly a sad loss to the entertainment industry Andre...

But surely she was an Actress not an Actor?

RIP Maggie

Hi Andre!

I loved Maggie Smith in Sister Act, but I think the Harry Potter franchise was what made her most memorable as a recent actress.

I am only familiar with her Harry Potter work; she was perfect for that role.

What set her apart from many others was that she didn't seem to act. While watching her, you didn't see an actor playing a part; you saw the part.

The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie is another classic of hers.
