Dame Maggie Smith the Passing of a Great Acting Legend
On Friday Morning British time the news came out that Dame Maggie Smith had passed away peacefully in a London Hospital at age 89.
She is survived by her two sons and 5 grandchildren.
The movie world has lost a great legend they don’t’ have people of her calibre these days.
Although the cause of death has not been revealed yet Dame Maggie Smith did have some health issues over the years, including Breast cancer which she got the all-clear a couple of years ago.
But also suffered from other issues like glaucoma, and Graves’ disease along with having hip replacement surgery a few years ago.
Awards winning Actor
Maggie Smith is a British Actor and has received many accolades over her 70-year career both on stage and screen.
She has won two Academy Awards, 1 Tony, and 4 Emmys, but I am sure she should have won more in other roles.
Some may not know her older roles over the early years but two you may be familiar with.
Her incredible role as Violet Crawley also known as the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
Downton Abbey is a British TV period drama that lasted for six years however she also played the same role later once more in two movie series of the same name.
She won 3 Emmys for her role.
Dowager Countess of Grantham
Those who may not be familiar with Downton Abbey would certainly know her as the famous and awesome role of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter Movie franchise.

Dame Maggie Smith had an incredible role over the many years and was one of the many older people who still held their own in the movie industry, proving that old actors still have what it takes.
She gained new fame in the Harry Potter series with the younger generation.
This is certainly a sad loss to the stage and screen and although the curtain has gone down, Dame Maggie Smith will continue to inspire many actors and fans alike.
May she rest in peace, sending thoughts and love to her family and friends alike.
Rest in Peace Dame Maggie Smith

Indeed, a great loss, Andre.
There was also a wonderful kind of "real life" movie she made back in 2018 with Dame Judy Dench, Dame Eileen Atkins and Dame Joan Plowright called "Tea With The Dames". It was wonderful to hear them reminisce over their acting careers.
I remember her amazing performance in the 1969 film "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", for which she won the Academy Award.
Cheers, Jenni.
Great tribute, Andre! 👍👍😎
I had an elderly patient that was her doppelganger!
We watched the first Harry Potter movie again in tribute to her, and tonight we are watching "Tea With Mussolini."
Rock On! 🤘🎹

Thank Frank that would have been great to hear from your patient and I am sure there would be nothing but praise and adornment about Maggie.
Feel like watching the Harry Potter movies again. Last time I watched them for the 100th plus time was when Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) passed away was a sad feeling to watch him knowing we would never see any new movies again he too was an incredible actor along with all the other greats in the movies.
Guess we have to keep on Rock on for our own sake 🤘🎸

Yeah, I’ve also seen the Harry Potter series too many times to count, Andre! 😎
Keep on Rockin’ It 🤘🎹

Certainly a sad loss to the entertainment industry Andre...
But surely she was an Actress not an Actor?
RIP Maggie
Thank you Nick yes a great loss but one of the greats that will be remembered for a long time.
I am sure a lot of younger fans of the Harry Potter series will be in shock and a loss of this too.

Hi Andre!
I loved Maggie Smith in Sister Act, but I think the Harry Potter franchise was what made her most memorable as a recent actress.
Yes she was great in Sister Act and also in the many stage and screen of the past as well.
It was Downton Abbey and of course that brought her talents back to the fore with Harry Potter showing that even us oldies still had what it takes to be great still.
I am only familiar with her Harry Potter work; she was perfect for that role.
What set her apart from many others was that she didn't seem to act. While watching her, you didn't see an actor playing a part; you saw the part.
Yes very true I believe all the cast were perfect for their individual roles in Harry Potter couldn't image anyone else playing such roles.
The way she played her part was pretty much the way she lived her life she took no crap and had no time for fools yet keep her humour in real life.
A testament to why she was so natural in all her roles especially Harry Potter.

This news hit me hard the other morning. HP⚡️ is almost like family in our home. So my children only knew her in that role but I knew her in the other roles she has played as well. Prayers for her children and grandchildren and the many fans who will miss such a talented artist
Yep many of the new younger generation may only know most of the older characters in HP yet their roles in other areas are truly amazing.
Perhaps the best thing for them to do is watch the movies again and appreciate their roles including Maggie's acting talents so they know just how good such legends are.
Enjoy your week ahead.
