Do NOT Directly Copy Images From Amazon.
Contrary to the popular opinion of Jay (which you can find here), the Amazon Associate policies don’t give you express permission to directly copy images from Amazon.
The line that is seemingly used to show that you can directly copy images is here (you’ll have to search it for yourself under 6. Content on your Site): ”except that you may resize Program Content consisting of a graphic image in a manner that maintains the original proportions of the image…”
But is that all that Amazon says in their policies about using images? And what is the definition of "Program Content"
What Exactly Is “Program Content”?
Program content is defined within the Amazon Associates Agreement as such:
In order to facilitate your advertisement of these items or services, we may make available to you data, images, text, link formats, widgets, links, marketing content, and other linking tools, application program interfaces, Alexa functionality, and other information in connection with the Associates Program (“Program Content”).
As you can see, Program Content does include images, but how you’re supposed to obtain and use these images is the actual crucial question.
Amazon makes the content available very specifically. Just remember that phrase "make available", since we're going to be seeing it very soon.
How Does Amazon Make Program Content Available to You?
Amazon provides Program Content through very specific tools to make sure you're using their content in a way that aligns with their terms.
I’m not going to cover all of them, but the main one to focus on is the “Product Advertising API (PA API).
The Product Advertising API is the primary tool Amazon gives affiliates to access product images, data, and other content. According to the Associates Program IP License, you are required to use the PA API to retrieve product images and other advertising content.
“2. PA API Usage Requirements
(a) Description. Under this License, we may make available to you Program Content including the following:
• Data, images, audio, video, logos, user interface designs, and other creative designs; and
• Textual materials, such as textual Product information.”
They use the PA API to 'make available to you Program Content'.
Hmm, we've seen that similar phrase somewhere else within the policy, haven't we?
So, well, It’s kind of clear from the policy what you can and can’t do…
I mean, if you actually read policy, it's kind of obvious what is allowed and what isn't.
That original line that Jay referred to, about resizing images, is just talking about how it is okay, if you are using the PA API, to make your images smaller or larger, as long as you are resizing the image, and not actually manipulating it to be disproportionate.
Guys and gals, please don’t directly copy images from Amazon. It’s against the rules, and it will get you banned. Use the proper channels that Amazon provides you to use.
Oh, and one more thing - Jay, if you still think it’s okay to directly copy images from Amazon, please continue reading the policy and teach everyone that all Program Content must link back to Amazon:
“You will use Program Content solely in accordance with the terms of the Agreement and within the express scope of the license granted herein. Without limiting the foregoing, you will (a) use Program Content solely to send end users and sales to an Amazon Site and will not link any Program Content to, or in conjunction with any Program Content, direct traffic to any page of a site other than an Amazon Site (however, parts of your Site that are not closely associated with the Program Content may contain links to sites other than an Amazon Site) and (b) link each use of the Program Content solely to the related Product detail page or other relevant page of an Amazon Site and not to any other page.”
As much as it’s a pain, everyone should always take time and read through all the policies of anything that they are using for themselves.
Thanks for reading.

Totally agree with you Andy. I just saw the video by Jay and disagree you cannot copy and paste directly any images from Amazon as you stated.
The only time we can use their images is or was from the old image section which has now been taken down from sidestrip or use the PAAPi key from Amazon providing you have the initial three sales but also for those who had their 3 sales already still need to get recent sales within 30 days I believe to use the PAAPI key from Amazon.
Otherwise you can get their key.
The only other way is to use the AI keys from other sources which are paid plugin version.
Phill1944 who is not here anymore still has many posts on this on his profile blogs others can still read about
So yeah bad information given with that blog about being able to copy and past e images from Amazon which is not allowed as you stated.
So thaks for keeping the truth and letting us know.

Hi Andy,
and everyone else who has answered. And this is why I was confused. I had read about API and PI and could not decipher it. I asked AI to research it and even that came back a little unclear. And today they (Amazon) introduced some other minor changes.
This does sound as if it is the best approach and I am sure that it easy to interpret this in different ways unless you are a lawyer.
But thanks for the clarification

Hi Andy,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I am humbled and honoured that you would go to great lengths to prove me wrong.
The great thing about WA, is that everyone has a voice and opinion.
When it comes to my own voice, I ALWAYS base my thoughts, opinions and education on experience and evidence.
In regards to the topic at hand, I have attached a screenshot of one of 3 live chat sessions I had with 3 seperate Amazon Associates support reps and asked the same question.
All said it was fine.
Regards,
Jay
Hey Jay,
Thanks so much for reaching out and helping clarify your point - I'm glad that you are both humbled and honored today. Everyone needs a little humility in today's narcissistic society!
Do you mind sharing your entire conversation with us, since there isn't a lot of info you shared within your screenshot.
Oh, and by the way, I also contacted them, and the answer I received was in complete agreement with what I wrote in the article above (screenshots and transcript below):

"You are now connected to Shantee from Associate Support.
Me: Hey Shantee, how are you doing today? 8:45:26 AM
Shantee: Hello, I'm fine, thank you for asking and you? 8:46:05 AM
Shantee: How can I help you today? 8:46:10 AM
Me: I'm doing well, thank you! 8:46:16 AM
Me: I'm trying to get an answer to Amazon's policy as to how can I use images I find on Amazon to display on my site. Could you help me? 8:46:16 AM
Shantee: if you have some programming skills, you are welcome to use our Product Advertising API (PAAPI) as a solution for accessing product information, images and titles 8:47:44 AM
Me: I've read that you can just copy and paste images from Amazon onto your site without using any API or Data Streams. Is this correct? 8:47:56 AM
Shantee: More information on How to use Images can be found here: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/re...(See full link) 8:48:13 AM
Shantee: No, Product images and reviews displayed on Amazon.com are copyrighted by others. 8:48:44 AM
Shantee: We display them on our site by permission from those third parties. Amazon.com doesn't have the legal right to give you permission to access, use, or display them and anyone who does so must have permission from the brand manufacturer to display copyrighted images. 8:48:44 AM
Me: So, to clarify, I have to use an API or Data Stream to use Amazon Images, and I can't directly copy/paste them onto my site? 8:50:15 AM
Shantee: Correct 8:50:53 AM
Me: Awesome. Thanks so much for your help! 8:51:16 AM"

And just a side note - you didn't answer my other comment within my article - the rules state that you much link back to Amazon/Amazon's products if you use their images. Are you going to do that and teach others to do that too?
And one last point. I appreciate you coming here and sharing that you always teach things based on 'experience and evidence'. But, well, don't most people do that? Or try to do that?
Just because you do that doesn't mean that it's right. I mean, most (not all) cult leaders believe what they teach and base it off of their 'experience and evidence'. Doesn't really make them right either.
So while I appreciate that you are trying to tell us that you don't intentionally try to deceive us, I think the point you are trying to make within that sentence is moot.
You also have a strange habit of leaving comments, but then never following up with said comments. So I would really appreciate a response to all my questions/comments above, since it would greatly help educate everyone here about your opinion on the matter.
Thanks for stopping by!
