7,500 word blog post. done!

Few months ago I took Kyle's challenge to write 10 reviews of at least 1,000 words each. It sounded hard but ended up a lot easier than I thought.

After that challenge I noticed that all of my posts were now 1000-2000 words long. The more you do it the easier it gets.

Then I started aiming for 2,000 word blog post. I noticed that these posts rank better in google. Bounce rate for these posts was significantly lower than for 500 word posts. User engagement (and social shares) were also higher for long posts.

Well today I broke my record by posting a 7,500 word article on my blog.

Since I launched my podcast I keep getting emails from people asking me how to do it. There are many tutorials online but many of them aren't complete or detailed enough.

So I thought: Hey, I can write a detailed tutorial on that subject! After all I did spend months doing research and getting it set-up properly.

So here is it, the very detailed tutorial on how to start a podcast. From idea to launch ;)
I'd love your feedback on it, here on WA and in my blog comments as well ;)

Thank You!

Oh my WOW, Alex! You put me to shame.. I think 2,500 is my record. I've bookmarked your post in case I ever feel brave enough to attempt a podcast - you've covered everything in such great detail. Left you a comment over there :)

Thank You so much, Claire :p
And now that I think of it, I probably wouldn't be able to write such a long blog post. This is a tutorial and not a blog post, this is probably why I was able to make it that long ;)

You're very welcome!

Yes, actually, now I think about it too, my longer posts are roundups of information rather than stories or reviews generally speaking.

Fab job :)

Yes indeed. I notice with Kyle s Review format it makes it esy to get to so many words. Glad you can Alex. Yet to take the challenge though. Take care.

Very impressive Alex. Thank you

PS. I was "engaged" through the entire post.
If people are interest in learning what it takes to created a podcast they will read all 7500 words

Awesome ;)
And that was kind of my thought. 7000 words of non-sense would be useless but a detailed tutorial will keep the reader engaged, as long as the reader is interested in the subject... which is our ultimate goal, to attract TARGETED audience to our content ;)

Alex,
WOW, you have just cleared up a world of thoughts I have had on this exact subject. I have, like you have done, been researching this for a while.
I shall heed your advice and apply your Insight to reach my goal.
Awesome post
Much success to you
Scott

Thank You so much, Scott!
Should we expect a podcast from you? :P

As you have encouraged "I just need to get started".

Feels like reading a post on ehow. Awesome site design :)

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? :)

Yup it's a good thing. The depth of the article is great :)

Thank you

Congrats... but I agree with profitsrgood. Once you lose someone, they are gone......................... for a while. Maybe I am just jealous because I don't think that I could do it unless I stutter a lot. And I would then get tired of typing the same world over and over and over......and over...........and....... you get the idea. At any rate, thanks and cheers.... :-)

I am not sure what you mean by "Once you lose someone, they are gone......................... for a while", could you elaborate on that please?

Simply mean that if a blog or whatever is too long or wordy, the mind begins to wander. One then might begin to take a 'who cares' attitude. If this happens, one may not come back to that blog for a while and move on to something else. Unless of course, it is of extreme interest to that person... that's another story. cheers... :-)

Let me also say that I am not talking about your 7500 word post. To read something that long, one would obviously have a dedicated interest in the subject matter. I am just talking about a post in general. I did look at your post and read a little of it and it seems to be very well done. Congrats on that as I am sure it took quite a bit of time. Again, cheers... :-)

Thank you

From an SEO point of view and readers I would advise keeping your blog posts to less than 1000 words. To put across a larger subject break out down to part 1 part 2 etc.

All of my 2,000+ posts rank a lot better than 1000 words posts. I've been doing SEO since 2007 so I am constantly experimenting with my content.

Although my 2,000+ words articles get a lot better SEO than 1000 word articles, I am really curious to see what will happen with 7,000+ words.

SerpIQ did a study on the article length vs. ranking in Google's top 10 and they found that in most cases, all top 10 results are at LEAST 2,000 words long.

It will be interesting to see if readers engage with them.

It seems like 2,000+ word blog posts also get more shares and more engagement.
