Site Comments - What to Do?

I'm loving the new, updated Site Comments.

In the past couple of days I've written 34 comments and generally I've enjoyed the whole process.

However, here are a few suggestions for when requesting comments:

1. Make sure your article you are requesting the comment for is longer that the actual comment you are going to receive.

I've seen some disappointing examples of blog posts that are:

  • not even 300 words long(!)
  • Have nothing to say about the subject and replace the content with uninteresting pictures. Remember, you are writing a blog post, not starting another picture sharing social media platform. We have Instagram for that.
  • If you have a book review site, please, write you own review, and don't just copy 250 words you have found on the back of the book cover. It's embarrassing.

But, not to hurt my acceptance rate, I was literally forced to leave good quality comments on such sites. These sites did not deserve a comment. No. They. Didn't.

2. Ask for comments for different posts on different days.

If you ask for comments on 10 of you blog posts all at the same time, it is very likely you'll get one and the same person leaving comments on you site.

Not sure if this is going to hurt you SEO (more experienced WA members, please, advise on this, thanks!), but if it were me, I'd like a variety of people and comment's styles on my blog, not just one.

Also, if you get someone who is not really paying attention to your article, or has not gone through the training of how to write comments, you'll end up with 10 wasted comment credits.

Hope you are going to join in with leaving comments on you fellow WA member's sites!

The new Site Comments Platform is easy to use, fast, and very useful.

Aaaaand, if you work just a little bit harder, you can even get paid! Love it!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Alenka!
I haven’t yet run into the situations you described but agree with your frustration.
Hopefully as time goes on people will get smarter about their own business!
Have a great day.
KyleAnn

Thank you for your support!
Best,
Alenka

I’ve been busy on my site and away from WA for a while so missed the new site comments memo.
I did however discover it by accident and so far I am liking what I I see.
If you get bad comments, don’t reject them, just edit them to what could have been said. A rejected comment is a wasted comment.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Thank you for your advice!
The new, improved Site Comments is fab :)

I like site comments, more so now as there are added incentives like the seed and the opportunity to make some cash. My concern is that I may not agree with a post that I read and if I express that disagreement, my comment is rejected. I've had that happen on at least two occassions.
I think that as bleoggers, we must know that not every one will agree with what we write and they should feel free to respectfully say so. If that is done, it should not cause us to reject the comment as it may lead to healthy discussion of our posts and therefore result in improved ranking for us.
That said, I applaud Kyle, Carson and the team for making these innovations.

Hi Russell
Thank you for the comment.
Couldn't agree more with what you said about a possible disagreement.
We can but try, and if the comment is approved that's fine, and if not, there is very little we can do about it.
Best,
Alenka

Hi Alenka,

You bring up some very good points. Until today I had been enjoying the quick replies and quality comments.

Hold on, let me clarify - I still am still thoroughly enjoying the site comments, it is only a couple of comments I didn't enjoy.

When I went to the seven comments - (yes seven - the number I usually received for an entire month!) that needed approval, and it was clear 2 of the respondents had not read my article.

I disapproved the one that really made no sense at all - something I've never done before but there was now way to even edit it.

The remaining comments were very thoughtful and encouraging. :-)

In spite of the couple of negatives, I do SO appreciate the improvements made to site comments!

For those of us with a very young website and minimal traffic this is such an awesome opportunity to acquire those comments that Google loves!

Absolutely! Long live Site Comments! :)

I hope the articles you mention are the minority, that's for sure.

I have left 11 comments so far but had to skip one which only had on line of written content and a image.

I was definately a bit stumped to leave a comment there.

Yes, they are a minority, but actually, there were quite a few in my 34 offered websites I've left a comment so far.
It's incredible, to go through the training and still have a blog post that has such poor content...
Anyhow, the majority is great! :)

My goal is to make 6 comments per day, pay attention to not jumping sites!

Excellent goal! Best of luck!

I know what you're talking about. We should have some sort of system in WA where people can have their posts evaluated before publishing them. It definitely is embarrassing. Like you I had a few that made no sense at all, others seemed to finish mid stream and some were obviously copied word for word from elsewhere. Jim

Hi, thanks for the comment!
It's beyond me why people even bother if they are going to publish such no value blog posts.
Well, each to their own, as long as I don't have to comment on their sites.
Have a great day!

I do agree, I've been commenting quite a bit related to the topic of the article. I actually enjoy reading and commenting.

But there are some topics I really (and I mean really
with an emphasis) can't relate to. I don't want to skip them, but then really have nothing constructive to offer.

What to do?

Although I have changed my interests to try to avoid these subjects. The comment request for these article still pops up.

Hi
Yes, I totally get what you mean. I've narrowed my 'interests' list to three categories.

However, if you were offered a blog post to comment on before you change your settings, you will have to either comment or skip that site (which will hurt your acceptance percentage). I haven't found another way.

Good luck!
:)

Valid statement Alenka.
I have not checked out the new features but all comments that I've heard were positive. I have 21 points credit to spend.
Thanks for sharing.

:)Joe

It's really fab. I love that fact that is so fast, responsive, easy to use, you can just get on with writing the comment without any other distractions.
21 credits sound great! Good luck!

Have you tried it on Smartphone?
I was thinking if we can write our comments during commuting to work. Thanks.

:)Joe

No, I haven't. Great idea! (and goodbye CandyCrush ;) )

LoL.
Luckily I have never been one of the CandyCrush 'community'.
Yeah, site-comment is the next game. Playing and get paid. How cool is that - no kingdom but at least something to pay the bill. :)

:)Joe

Good to read and I plan to go there more,

tom

Do, do, it's really great!
