About SAWalden
Joined July 2018
As a wife, mother, grandmother, and therapist for the past 35+ years with an obsession for quilting and gardening, a degree in interior design and a strong interest in universal design, I've finally decided that I may actually possess a bit of knowledge and a few skills that may be useful to others - knowledge and skills not always needed in the hospital setting where I currently work. And while I may know a little bit about a few things I feel there is LOT I want and need to learn.

Each day I see how the internet and access to instant communication and information has enabled opportunities today that were unimaginable in the (not-so-distant) past and I see nothing but potential for the future.

I've spent a fair amount of time reading other's blogs about the networking and financial benefits of blogging, many "how-to" articles, etc. and feel the time is now for me to join in and put into words (and images, video, etc.), my thoughts and ideas that may also prove to be a solution to another's problem and if I earn a dollar or two along the way that would be a real bonus!

Feel free to stop by and say Hi, ask a question or offer advice!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle,

The main problem I'm having is narrowing all my choices (I have a running list of about 10 or 11 ideas) to just one - maybe two if I decide to do a second website.

Right now I'm looking at aging-in-place/inclusive or universal design products and services. So far I've located 7 affiliate programs. My second choice is quilt designs using precut fabrics. I haven't begun that affiliate search yet but I feel there should be quite a few.

Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

Wonderful advice! After sleeping on this I woke up and realized my niche needed to be way more specific. Something like "Quilt rulers and techniques" or "hands free sink faucets" may be more the direction I should go.
I love the phrase you offered and decided on this: "I want to help people that want to learn how to accurately cut fabric for making a quilt".

Yes, absolutely. You can narrow it down like this. And even being more narrow like this, you will be allowed to diversify and target and promote a broader spectrum of products/services as you build out your website.

Hey Susan, welcome to Wealthy Affiliate! This is Mike Rogers from http://AffiliateMarketerTraining.com. Wealthy Affiliate is the absolute best place for new affiliate marketers to kick off their online business and even as a seasoned pro, I love spending time here chatting with people. Make sure you really spend time going through the training (don't just rush through it!) and if you do that, you'll be way ahead of 95% of anyone else trying to start an online business.

By the way, even though I'm usually busy running my own websites, I am very active here at Wealthy Affiliate as well, so if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to send me a private message.

Best of luck as you start your new business! All the best! :)
