Word of warning to Street Article Writers regarding affiliate links. You can't add them.

Just finished my 3rd SA article, which is part of the level 3 training here. Really pleased with how I tied in my Amazon affiliate links within the article for two worthy book recommendations only to find that you cannot add affiliate links (after I attempted to publish).

Just a word of warning to prevent others from wasting their time thinking about how they might go about doing this, coz it ain't going to happen. Happy writing :)

I was informed by someone obviously uninformed that was a good SEO method of getting linkbacks. Oh well, like the professor used to say on 'Rocky & Bullwinkle Show', "Oh well Leonardo, back to the drawing board!" If you were born after 1970 you probably have no idea what I am talking about. Suffice it to say 'its time to rethink, my rethinking!

Boris, this is Natasha speaking.... lol Loved Rocky & Bullwinkle. That show was ahead of its time!!!! :) I agree, though, that sometimes we think we are so clever and then learn the hard way that we need to slow down and take one step at a time.... Thanks for the info Alan and Rick too!

No idea what you are talking about :) but I just cut the ice on the 1970 cut off: Rocky and Bullwinkle has a damned fine ring to it!

This is one of the rule in writing at SA, no affiliate links can be added:)

Yo man, guess I learnt the slow man, semi retarted route way....as always!

Thanks for the tip. Always good to have a heads up on things like that.

....cheers, you self lovely, decent, salt of the earth bloke..:)

Well, that's the first someone has ever called me that... I'll take it as a compliment!

Thanks for the info. Have not gotten to that point yet but I will keep it in mind for when I get there.

You're welcome, but thanks to others for shedding more light on this. By the way, if you ever try to upload a photo to SA, you might be better of doing it using print screen. Wasted quite a bit of time looking on free stock sites and they are often configured badly for uploading.

Sorry you weren't aware of this. Hope you've managed to link it back to your website :) Beverley

Yep managed. Now have to try and upload a photo as well.

Learnt it a hard way.

Thanks for this info,Alan

You are welcome. We are learning this stuff as we go along. Heuristic process I think they call it!

I knew this a long time ago.

Good for you, Tommy. I wish I had known ;)

One of the main benefits of SA is to get that first exposure for new websites. Post those aff links on your website and link to the website from street articles

Tout a fait, cheers Bo

Unfortunately, links are only allowed to be added after the 300th word, restricting links to anything early on in any article. Does not matter if the link is for information purposes or affiliate action.

Jordan

Cheers Jordan, that is useful to know the exact number. I knew that it was in the final 3rd of the article. However, I am fairly sure that affiliate links are not allowed anywhere in the article, as I have just checked and I attempted to place them around 400.

make sure the page you link to has some content to it as well. That is another requirement. the page you link to can have affiliate links, but should be a page with a decent amount of text on it,
