Decisions, decisions… And sticking with it!
So, I started my website in a niche I chose on a whim during a holiday (vegetable gardening… calling this my first niche). I had in mind starting another one that was more in my interest line (children raising… my second niche) once I got the hang of all this.
My website name is conducive to both niches… in fact, my husband assumed that was the way I was going to go… both.
So one day I think.. Yeah I'll combine them..
The next I'm thinking… no, I want to keep them separate.
So here's the logic of both on paper… to clear this head of mine.
(PS: I also have banished the idea of ditching my current niche and just going with the second… logic may not be guiding that but.. anyway.)
(PPS: I'm sure you'll see what decision I've made by these biased PROS and CONS:))
PROS of joining the 2 interests
- I get to start fleshing out both dreams at once… rather than waiting for the day I gain more time or whatever (as tomorrow sometimes never comes).
- I can focus on one thing and do it well… rather than trying to divide my time between 2 things and doing 2 badly (a more experienced WA-er HERE told of how she had started 3 blogs her first year and believes in hind sight that 1 would have been much much better.)
- I have more product ideas (plus an easy store idea) that go with my second niche… but my first niche also has potential this way.
- Ultimately, I can go with both and if there is more of a pull one way or the other, over time I can just post more and more on that… and I am open to completely going with one when I completely one day… and I'll be sure which one!
CONS
- A lot of WA training and comments here seem to recommend going with a tight niche… I see the wisdom in this and hope I'm not being arrogant to go against it… It's just, I've seen many blogs that seem to thrive with multifaceted interests as long as they are tied together neatly by the writer themselves.
- How neatly can I tie these together? only time will tell.
SO anyway… I have a bit of work to do… hope it's the right choice.
Now that I've made it I do feel stronger about it.
The key now is to not second guess it… decision made… move on… and get to work!!!
Thanks for listening to the ramble:)

Hey Loes and 'the Hammer',
Thanks for the time u spent reading my muddle!!
I wasn't very clear in it... What I meant was I am going with 1 website with 2 complimenting niches (1 site with blogs on both subjects) rather than 2 separate websites. Ur reasoning is the very same reason I don't think I could run 2 sites.
I hope that's clearer... And I'd love to hear your opinion on that idea... 1site-2 linked subjects.
Appreciate your honesty!!!
Hi Adelaide, I have kids art on my site, and I blog about milieu, veggie, biologic, raising kids, animal health, psycology, short said: give children life awareness as young as posible.
Hi Adelaide, I myself have 3 ideas for sites, started with one, and really, have my hands full for now, my goal is to have the second one in about a year and the third one before three years are over, succes on your choise, greetings Loes
Hello and thanks for getting your thoughts down here on "paper" ;) If I may give some insight to your challenge ;) Personally... I would go for one niche first then move on to the next (especially in growing phase of the site), the reason I am saying this is because when the reality of life kicks in and our daily routines it can be a bit difficult to implement strategies to build and grow 2 or more sites at the same time. It all seems good and we have clear vision in our minds, however things can change when put into practice and this can be dangerous to our motivation to keep both sites going. Overwhelm is a very real and dangerous thing in this business and has the ability to demotivate people fast.
Building a site takes time and dedication while maintaining takes up less time and energy, it is the easier of the two. Put everything into the one site, build it, get some content on it and then while you maintaining that one you can always start looking at starting up the next one :) Everything you do will double... Double article writing, double promoting on social media, double research, double engaging etc.
Of course I have got no idea how disciplined you are or how much time you have so maybe creating 2 at the same time will be ok for you. Personally when I started if I knew what I know now, I would have started with one, put all my focus and energy on that one and then moved to the next one.
Something to bare in mind regarding the multi-faceted sites is that we have no idea what kind of team is behind that site. There might be several people working behind the scenes plus they may have years more experience. Not to say it is not possible for you, just something to keep in mind.
Excited to see your choice and your blog when you get going with it and welcome to WA :)

Adelaide; you can figure this one out & get it done. I'd say just go with what the Father reveals to you. And since this is YOUR thing, I believe that you gotta go with whatever He reveals to you, period.
I was gonna go deeper yet the Hammer has given it all to you. Good advice, the Hammer. Hammer time seems to be a good follow.
Rock on
Jim thanks!
I guess for me it has come down to making either work and just doing it!
Right now I'm going with 1 mixed site and growing confidence in the idea… but have told myself that if I still feel disjointed about it once I've finished the trainings here (do you ever:)) I will give myself the freedom to either drop one niche or start a new site.
This will give me time to make this work first.
I am excited about the prospect of sharing Christ with others… while at home with my little girls:)
I see a set of great double doors standing before you, waiting for you to open. They are Not locked or sealed or anything, just hinged & waiting for you to "push" them open, if you so choose. They will swing open easily.
Just before this, I was thinking of you creating a website concerning "home schooling" with lots of pages & information that you not only learn so to school your's, yet also pages after you've begun schooling & the things you have learned from doing it.
Perhaps even a home schoolers' forum where ya'll can lift each other up (& develop life-long friends???).
And you know, you can market this Wealthy Affiliate within such a "home schooling" website. Have pages whereby you explain / show the other home schoolers' the benefit of KNOWING this internet thing. Shoot, tell em they'd best learn it now so they can instruct their own children & not the other way around.
Ms. A. Clay, this is THE place to learn all about the internet & the opportunities within it. Do hang out & give it some time. From your rank (685), it is obvious that you are not here just to do nothing.
You've got much going for you, Ms. Clay.
Much
Thanks Jim,
all great food for thought. We could have fun in that arena as both my husband and I were home schooled ourselves.
Your not helping my 'to-do list' with all the great options tho:)
Didn't realise my ranking was so high! It seems to fluctuate heaps and I probably don't pay too much attention to it.
I am a bit of a hermit though and didn't think I was putting much into the group here.
Forget about the WA ranking.
With you, it will be fine.
The only advantage with WA rank is so to bring people in & train them via you "rank" credibility.
As for the too much to do list, stick to your guns. Focus on one site & keep notes for future sites. Get yourself a business file (cabinet) going.
After you've practiced a lot, then move on to site #2. Then #3. Then perhaps your home school'N site. By then, you should be helping me out! I've been told I need it.
Rock on
