Are You Happy Disapproving Comments From Your Own Community?

More are coming up with complains they are being blocked because their comments were disapproved. Don't we know that we are all here at Wealthy Affiliate learning, exploring and finding the answers to the questions of life?

Why can't we be considerate in giving the optimum and conducive place for everyone to develop themselves? For me, I don't want anybody feels sad and disappointed.

A comment on my site possessing the following characteristics is acceptable:

1) a question related to what is offered for comment. Whether it be positive or negative.

2) a remark pronouncing an assertion against the post. This would serve a venue for clarification.

3) a sharing of experience related to the post. Personal or observations.

All of these I think would help the readers and visitors of the site to understand what is written and being discussed.

Thanks for sharing Jimmy. As long as it is informative, I will accept any comment.

You are welcome sir. We want open minded positive people in a community.

Thank you for this great post! I accept all comments that follow the characteristics you mentioned above. I feel we all have a difference in opinions and are not going to always agree with each other.

The only times I have had to disapprove a comment is when it is truly not a comment and just feedback. I think some people get confused between the two. When I have had to disapprove a comment I always try to be polite about it.

Be always kind and polite if ever you are challenged.

Yes I always am!

Jimmy, I believe any comment is acceptable as long as it is respectful. Someone doesn't have to agree with me, that's how we interact and learn. That is the beauty of community interaction: we don't all agree.

We can agree to disagree. Respectfully.

Absolutely!

First, and maybe I'm fortunate, more than 80% of the comments I receive are ...at least good.

Of that 80%, 20% of those are exceptional.

The remaining 20% that don't fall into the "good" category are typically utter crap.

Things like "great article" or something similar. Sorry, but it's not wrong for me to expect decent comments from WA members, even new ones.

WA members are supposed to be at least a cut above your average web surfer, and I simply expect more from people in our communities.

You get by giving, and if you are doing that chances are you didn't even read my post. If you aren't generous and giving in your pursuits, you are not going to continue down this path very long I fear.

When I do get comments that are crap, I have a simple solution, I do NOT disapprove them.

I simply rewrite them. Maybe you think that's wrong, but here's my take...

If you can't dig deep enough to come up with at least one thoughtful, well written sentence on topic to the content I spent my very valuable time writing, then you've given up your privilege of your 2 cents and I WILL put words in your mouth.

It's my site!

If I think you even tried a LITTLE bit, I will leave it alone (except for correcting spelling and grammar) ultimately approving it.

I have no problem with contrarian perspectives, like Jimmy expressed, that's a great opportunity for a conversation and is just good prose.

But mediocre blathering that adds nothing, sorry, that's the kind of stuff that boils my blood!

That's my take.

James

You added strength for the discussion.

I have never disaproved any comment! If I find it offensive, I just won't reply at all. I'm a believer, that if you don't have nothing nice to say, then say nothing. However it is very rare I've com across this. Thank you for sharing.

That's one way of saying things.

I only disapproved a comment once because it was feedback and not a comment. Unfortunately some people can't tell the difference.

I learned from it too.

I do not disapprove of any comments. Good or bad it is a learning tool. You need to be thick-skinned about criticism. When people tell you all the time, it is good, there is nothing wrong. I am not learning. I need to know why you would return to my site. There is a difference between being mean and providing development. Need to able to take the good with the bad.

Well said. By not saying the truth of your site will not help. But it should be spoken no in a harsh way.

There is a difference between SiteFeedback and SiteComments. Unfortunately, people tend to confuse the two. If you are asking for a comment on SiteComments you are not asking for feedback on your site you are asking people to comment on your site as if they were a natural, organic search visitor to your website.

I know I made mistakes being confused of the two. Maybe others experienced the same but not all.

I feel very fortunate to be in this community. If someone offers criticism, I am willing to accept it. Whether I choose to do anything with it or not is up to me. But at this stage in my life/training I'll take any compliment or criticism thrown my way. Sometimes, the way that we say things to each other may vary due to culture, upbringing etc. I would like to think, however, that the criticism is meant in a constructive fashion. I'm interested in hearing what other people have to say.

You are right.

I'm not happy at all when I have to disapprove a comment. Of the comments I've been receiving lately, most of them are borderline. I've given most of the authors the benefit of the doubt that the subject of the article they are not familiar with and as such I'll edit their comment to suit my needs and approve it.

However, when 2/3 of the comment consists of feedback(we're talking about feedback posted in the SiteComments area here) then I have no other choice than to disapprove it.

I would leap for joy if all of the comments I received in SiteComments followed your guidelines, but, as it stands right now, they do not.

Well, you are considerate enough. Ans when you do that you are winning them to your side.

I don't disapprove. I reason and clarify!

That's sensible.
