Making commissions on your personal purchases and your friends

If you are an Amazon affiliate, you probably know that you will not make any commissions on your personal purchases. They have very sophisticated tracking software. You might not even get paid on family and friends.

I recently joined the Linkshare network. I signed up as a Walmart.com affiliate. They will pay you 4% on all purchases, even your own. I tested it on a small order and they did pay.

Is this still up to date?

I think so. Can it Jim

Amazon's Rule #29 of the Participation Requirements states
You will not purchase any Product(s) through Special Links for use by you or for resale or commercial use of any kind.

So break this rule, if your intention is to be banned by Amazon:)
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kipps

My question is about Rakuten. Can a friend purchase via my link there?

Oops, sorry, my friend. Just the other day my nephew ordered a book on Amazon via my link. This is not the first time he did. Until today I have not encountered any problem from Amazon. If there occur any issue later I will report to you and to the wider WA Community. In my own logic, this should not be a problem. My nephew used to buy books on Amazon. Now that he knows I am an Amazon Associate he buys books via my site. I think Amazon has no way to know he - the buyer - is my nephew. Even if they know, why should my relatives be barred from buying books via my link and why should I be penalized?

But if I buy books or any other items using my own link, that is a sure way of making Amazon mad at me.
Cheers,
Kipps
