Hash and tags

I am from the generation we used to smoke or eat the first stuff and now I am of the generation that Knows "tags" are those shitty things that hang off your arms. Little skin extensions that let you know you had a great past life but now you are going to pay for it sucker, Lol.

What are Hashtags then

These are not a combination of the two, do not try to eat your "tags" ok.

What they are is a freaking great way to increase social media awareness of how to find your stuff.

Think like "hashtags" are the 'Dewey" system for websites and promoting on social media. And if you do not know the Dewey Decimal System you have probably never been to a library.

The Dewey Decimal System categorizes books so it is easy to find them.

And that is what hashtags do. It helps people find your stuff. Just like a library classification system which allows new books to be added to a library in their appropriate location based on subject to help people find them.

So if you want to make finding stuff easier for your readers use hashtags.

How do I use them do I hear,

Each platform has its own best practices for hashtag placement:
Instagram:
You can put hashtags in the caption or as the first comment to keep your post visually clean.
Using 5-15 relevant hashtags improves reach without looking spammy.
Twitter/X:
Include 1-2 hashtags within the tweet or at the end.
Hashtags help categorize tweets and increase discoverability.
Facebook:
Use 1-3 hashtags in your post for visibility, preferably at the end or naturally within the text.
Avoid overloading posts with hashtags, as Facebook’s algorithm doesn’t prioritize them as much as Instagram or Twitter.
TikTok:
Hashtags should go in the caption, mixing popular ones (like #FYP) with niche ones for better targeting.
Keep them relevant to your video content.
LinkedIn:
Add 3-5 hashtags at the end of your post.
Professional and industry-related hashtags work best.
YouTube:
Hashtags can be placed in the video title, description, or tags section.
YouTube displays the first three hashtags above the title, so choose them wisely.

Thanks Steve. I hope you're not still eating the hash. The tags can be removed, you know. :-)

Stevoi,

I am guilty of being in the first generation too, and hashtags used to confuse me. Now, I do see their value in helping content get discovered. The comparison to the Dewey Decimal System makes so much sense! Hashtags are like little labels that tell people exactly where to find what they need.

I do need to get better at using them the right way on different platforms, though. It’s good to know that less is more on Twitter and Facebook while Instagram and TikTok give more room to play. Time to test some out and see how they help.

Best,

Boris

I'm certainly from the generation that prefers the first part Stevoi!!

Great info though my friend and I will do my best to use them fully.... and more often!!

👍🤣🍻

Great, great. Thanks Stevoi for the reminder of using hashtags as it is easier. :)

Myra ♥️

Thanks for the reminder, Stevoi, I admit I neglect them. I promise to do better.
