Short Attention Span.
By the time you have finished reading this, most American citizens will achieved their maximum attention span.
The average attention span is now less than 60 seconds, and that is probably why social sites like Tik Tok and Snapchat have been so popular.
And YouTube shorts 🩳 is becoming very popular. And the average Tik Tok video is now under 15 seconds in length.
Things have Changed.
According to research by the University of California, Irvine, the average American adult today tends to focus on a screen for about 47 seconds before clicking away or tending to something else.
In 2012, the researchers found the average attention span to be around 74 seconds; when they began studying attention spans 20 years ago, that figure was closer to 150 seconds.
And now Disney, Netflix, and Warner Bros. Discovery are competing not just against ameach other but also against Instagram and TikTok and podcasts like Joe and others….why, because they all want your BRAINS 🧠…well at least your attention.
The battle for the eyeballs, He who holds the eyeball, holds the advertising revenue.
And going back to that 47 seconds. If you haven’t captured your eyeballs 👀 for your website or YouTube blog, they will disappear like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland never to be seen again and the cry will go up…. Off with their heads.
Total Ad Spend
Total ad spend on social media is now 94 billion dollars ( no wonder I can’t afford gas for the car ) And the same people who reported that, Advertiser Perceptions, also says Sơn will increase another 14% this year and 11% in 2025.
So the belief is that social media marketing is the way to go and will continue to increase in numbers and dollars.
Positioning yourself. lol.
Are you adding content that will satisfy your readers diminishing attention span or providing such riveting content that they will never leave.
It is worth thinking about and planning for.
For example, most of my blogs now contain a short (; under 3 minutes, and my own) video explaining what the article I am writing about.

Yep, that seemed to be the unwritten rule wasn’t it. 1,000 to 1500 words.
I try to mix things up a bit and do include short videos which I think helps with SEO.
I still write cornerstone content, and the biggest was about 3300 words. And I needed that length to cover the topic.
My normal stuff is700-1200 words but have even done a couple of 350 word blogs…with video. And depending on the topic, that is enough. I have, read HAVE been getting the majority of my posts indexed without having to apply for indexing.

It reminds me of as birthday Zi hard in Australia many moons ago.
I was feeling a bit sad as I thought everyone had forgotten my birthday. So I bought a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and climbed into the bathtub to drink it, lol. If I remember correctly I was 21 luckily fully clothed..and wet. Well my friends turned up and they had to pull me out of the bath, and then we all went clubbing. lol. 😆

You are so right -- and many of my blogs are much too long. Great advice.
Thanks Fran, I mix up the length of my blogs but don’t hold a conscious goal. I just try to write until I have covered the topic. Some long and some short.

My videos are only 3 minutes long and they are for people who don’t like reading more than 1,000 words. The downfall of civilization has surely started..
