How to work at Home.

Working from home always seemed like a dream come true. You can work and if you feel like a coffee you can stop for a few minutes and make one. And why not run a load of washing. It only takes a couple of minutes to load the machine . It’s great being able lay on the sofa and tap away on the keyboard.

And slowly more and more things get blended together, but I’m sure that doesn’t matter, does it?

The blending of work and personal stuff might seem trivial at first. But it can end up becoming a problem when you cannot separate one from the other.

You will find yourself struggling to get things done and on time, and often have to deal with a wandering mind.

You need to be even more focused when you work from home and for me the first place to start is your desk.

I lost my desk a week a week ago ( long story) so I reinvested some funds into updating my personal space.

I decided to buy online and after looking at pictures and measurements I went for this…

Oh the joy, IKEA without the instructions. Hey this is Vietnam, we don’t need instructions. Especially if it’s in English because we can’t read English anyway…lol

Unpacked and it was there, was it everything, did I have enough pieces of woody looking stuff and most importantly did I have a Phillips head screwdriver.YAHOO, YES I DID.

After working diligently for 30 minutes I’d achieved….nothing. So at the wife’s suggestion we rang the company we bought it from and they sent a link to a YouTube video.

Haha, you thought I was going to say I worked it out and like a marvelous Mensa man, put it together alone. Noooo.

But finish it, I did. And the video wasn’t that great. Just someone putting together a desk at his normal work rate (fast) with no sound.

But we did it and I have my own space again. So when you think of me, I know you do..lol, this is my coalface. And I can finally get back to concentrating on work and not my underwear spinning around at 100mph..lol.

Good morning Stephen,

Thank you for your blog post, as always, it is much appreciated.

It's so important to have a quiet workspace to work from! I have a room in the house that is dedicated to my office space, somewhere where I can shut the door. It's important to have a proper place to work from.

As you mention, working from home is great, but we have to be so careful regarding all those potential distractions! The boffins tell me that when we get distracted, it takes 22 minutes to get back to full speed again. I find that if I get distracted too many times in one day, I can lose it completely. In other words, my workflow is totally lost, not clever at all.

A nice desk, Stephen, by the way!

Have a great day.

Roy

Thanks Roy,
I also find the external interruptions slow me down even more. Like you, I can lock myself away so it’s not easy to talk to me when I have my head down.
Thanks
Stephen

It's a pleasure, Stephen!

It sounds like great minds think alike! I believe that the majority of us do not realise how much interruptions cost us! I think my wife sometimes thinks I'm angry, but I just want to get as much done in the time available! Time is precious and valuable!

Have a great Sunday.

Roy

Hi Stevoi.
Nice desk. I've got one here that needs to be put together. Call round tomorrow and bring your screwdriver, please ;-)

Best,
Paul

Cheap rates, but the airfare might be a killer..lol.

No worries Stevoi - I'll get you a flight with EasyJet as they are very cheap heheh.

Best,
Paul

Easy…easy crash by any way. Lol.
Wow…I found my booking, what not even a seatbelt…

Heheh - I've booked your airport collection. The driver will stand with a card with your name on it when you clear customs. On a serious note, it's time to do some work!
Have a great day.
Best,
Paul

Looks like a beautiful new desk you have there Stevoi and nice work putting it together!

I'm intrigued to know how you lost your old desk though... it's not like a set of car keys is it!! 🤣

When working from home a couple of chilled ones close by can also assist one greatly my friend! 🍻

You gotta see how big my pockets are….I can lose anything…haha…
I lost my sense of humor putting the desk together…lol.

I bet you could!

And that happens a lot to me where flat packed furniture is involved!

What piece did you have left over my friend??🤔

This keeping on a steady pace when working from home is a real issue.
Life seeps in every available crack!
Glad you got your desk set up. A new work desk is on the agenda for me next year.

The quick glimpse into your world was fun.
Sami

Now I have a pace I can escape to….behind locked doors.. I have keypad entry…keeps out those who drain my time…
Stephen

Congratulations, Stevoi. Anyone who can successfully put together an Ikea piece has my vote! Jenni.

Yep, and I even had a few pieces left over…woops, not meant to have any left over pieces…arrgghh.

Stephen, mission accomplished! Could have been worse. 🤣😂🤣

Canty

You mean it couldn’t have been worse, now my wife will never let me forget whose idea it was to ring the supplier..
Lol.

Well done, Stephen…YT to the rescue haha. Think of how much more you’ll now accomplish!

Susan 😉

Today the desk, tomorrow the Taj Mahal.

Stephen

Well done Stevoi!

I knew that you had it in you, my friend!

We can succeed at anything that we put our mind too, my friend!

Jeffoi😎👍

Had to buddy, the wife was there with a whip..

Wow, Stevoi! She looks good though, my friend!

Jeffoi🤣

Haha, I better check a bit closer next time, getting a bit close to level “risqué “

I think that you might be right, Stevoi!😳🙄

Good job, Stephen! That's a fine looking desk.

Myra

Thanks Myra, not bad for $20.50.
Stephen
