Convert Wordpress Posts to Pages
Good day Wealthy Affiliates!
If you happen to be a newbie like me then most likely you also get confused between a "Post" and a "Page" in Wordpress as both will allow you to write your content and publish it to your website. I just know that when you setup your privacy policy, contact or about me page of your website then I would go and create a Page. For all other contents, I will create and submit a Post.
However, I just realized while redesigning my website for the nth time, some of the posts that I submitted should be better off as a static page that will be accessible through the top menu instead of seeing it rolling down with my other articles in my home page.
What's the difference between a post and a page?
A "Post" are contents that are listed in reverse chronological order and may be stamped with dates, authors or tags and can be group into categories. If your article needs to be in a page layout that is blog oriented then you will have to submit your content as a "Post". It will also be visible in the Archives, Recent Posts, Categories or some other widgets on the right or left hand side of your webpage called sidebar depending on the Wordpress theme of your site.
A "Page" on the other hand is static just like your About page. You want it to be accessible in one place of your site and don't want it to be listed with the other articles in your home or blog page. Usually, you will put your pages under the primary or secondary menu.
How do yo convert a post to a page or vice versa?
Now if you already have published a Post and have decided that it should be a static page where you can add it under your main menu or on your sidebar using the Pages widget, you might be tempted to just create a new Page, copy the title and content of your Post that you want to convert, publish the new page then just delete the old Post.
This may work if you have only one post or page to convert, what if you have more? Then it may be a daunting task. Thanks to this plugin called pTypeConverter, it allows you to select your post or page and easily converts it, in which case has saved me all the hassle.
Here's the steps on how to convert your post or page:
1. Go to you plugins page on your website dashboard and search for ptypeconverter.
2. Install the plugin and activate.
3. Go to Tools then click on pTypeConverter.
4. Go to the Convert tab and filter your list by Post or Page whichever content type you want to convert.
5. Tick the posts or pages you want to convert then select the type of content you want it converted to and hit on the Convert! button.
Note: If your converting your pages to a post and you pages are under a parent page, watch out for the permalinks as it may not work anymore. You may have to update manually your url link pointing to the page you converted to a post.
I found a video tutorial of this in Youtube, you may click here to watch it.
Hopefully this has helped some of you who are faced with the same issue and let me know if there's anything I can assist or you may want to share regarding this tool.

Thank you for providing this information. I was able to organize my website using this pluggin. Debbie
Hi Sheryl, I don't think the content would get lost. After converting a page to post, it will appear under your blog page. Just to be safe, make a copy of the content before you try to convert :)

Thanks Zdad, your explanation cleared my path. I will go with Page then, no conversion needed yet. Great tool though.
