Why I don't take the Black Friday offer
okay, I have to admit: it's a GOOD offer: $299 for a whole year of Wealthy Affiliate Premium membership. I count that as half the price of monthly installments.
However,
- you have to have the money available
- you have to be sure that you're going to stay with WA for more than 5 months
- you have to fit with the WA style of teaching and community
The third is a big YES for me. That's an easy one.
The first two are more difficult.
Yes, I can free up $299, but do I want to use that money here, or can I use it better on other stuff during this month of gifts and more gifts? I think the latter.
Which brings me to the second point:
Will I be staying with WA for more than 5 months?
I ask myself this question because if I stay only for 5 months, I'll be paying $250, which is less than the black friday offer. And after all it's a numbers game, so in that case I would not get the offer.
The whole issue here is that I'm very new to affiliate marketing, and especially new to the WA style of affiliate marketing, which, imho is the best style.
I'm so new that I can't be sure yet where I'll be going with my online endeavors.
So, what can I get out of WA during 5 months, and what would be left after that?
During the coming months, I'm certainly going to follow through on the Certification courses. I'm at level 3 now, so 3 levels to go. I'm guessing that'll take me 2 months.
After that I'm intent on doing the Affiliate Classroom. I'm guessing another 2 months.
After that, what's in WA for me?
- The community,
- the hosting,
- the Keyword Tool, and
- the ongoing training
The community is nice, and a quick place to get opinions, but for answers to specific questions, I can turn to google easily. Isn't the community included in the free plan anyway?
The hosting is NICE on WA. Top notch. Would I pay $25 per month for that? No, I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Yes, the support would be much less good, but how often do I really need support?
The Keyword Tool is okay, I guess, but I think Jaaxy is better. But I don't pay for that either ;-) Kyle did mention on a few accounts that there is something coming up in december related to Jaaxy and WA... That would be an interesting feature to have. But still, I don't know if I want to pay monthly for that, or rather for a couple of months, and then leave it at that until I have a new need for keyword research?
Take into account that I'm new at affiliate marketing. I still don't know how I'm exactly going to fit this into my life. I don't know if keyword research is something that I'm going to do on a regular basis or only once in a while.
The ongoing training is interesting to keep up with the market. However, depending on how I'm going to fit affiliate marketing into my life I'll be wanting this from WA or I'm going to read up on blogs here and there.
Concluding,
I will be following through with courses here on WA and participating in the community for about 4 months. I'll gladly pay $50,- per month for that. That's great value for my money.
After that I'll either go free or annual.
That will depend on if I see money coming in then, in which case I'll sign up for the yearly $349 offer.
If I don't see money coming in, I'll have to think hard what I'm going to do. That choice I'm going to postpone until then. No need to break my head over that right now.
So for now, I'm sticking with the regular Premium membership, paid monthly.
If all works out as I have planned, in about 4 months I'm going to sign up for the yearly subscription, and next year I'm going for the 2018 Black Friday offer, which will probably be even better than this year's :-)

It's good to get it all down on paper like that to help you make a smart decision. Everyone has to make that decision based on their own life circumstances.
Why this fuss?
5 x 49 = 245
I see you have SSL, what does this cost you at another host? 55?
5 months at WA then you have 7 months to another host, about 3-5 a month (without SSL) that 'll be at least 21
I think you miss some costs and convenience here
Great reasoning things out in your life! I think you are wise in this.
I have looked at this from a similar perspective. Although, I spread it out to a year long venture. Also, I must admit that paying for a year of WA did something positive to my psyche as far as projecting an even more desire to be successful. I had already decided to master WA for a whole year when I was paying monthly, so I have already been successful financially in my mind by saving a pretty good chunk of cash monthly.
Because you reason things out like this, I think you will go far in what ever you are doing!
The post below, starts "Good post, and good responses already...."I
It was supposed to be addressed to WLusink
(I personally think you are going to swim!)
Good post, and good responses already. I'm having an issue with my attempts at (internal, WA) posting. I am being refused because I have attempted to go over the limit for the first 3 months.. Allegedly.
But my first post was not done by me. It simply "appeared" there. And my second was just a short TEST to see which button I was supposed to click to send it on.
You have 13 posts and you mention having joined very recently.
Can you please tell me when you joined, and when you rose to Premium, so that I may be able to go back to the bosses to be permitted to send out my post??

Nice post!
It is clear that you have put a ton of thought into this and make some valid points!
2 points that I noticed...
1. Staying for 5 months and paying $250 doesn't seem like much of a savings considering you can pay $49 more and get 7 extra months!
I mean think of it this way, if you stayed for 6 months (rather than 5), you would have paid roughly the same amount (294) for 6 months where $299 would get you 12.
2. The hosting here is good. When you break down the $299/year deal it comes down to $25 as you stated... so you will essentially be paying for hosting for $25/month.
That is a bit on the high end...
However, you are getting more than just hosting with the WA platform. You get the evergreen training and community
At http://bluehost.com a similar hosting plan comes down to about $13 a month for one year. (even cheaper if you sign up for 3 years)
So basically I am paying $12 a month for the training and community for an extra $144 a year.
So to me, the $12 is worth it. (Jay's training is worth at least $12 a month by themselves!).
But with all that said, that is my take.
If you do not promote WA, than not taking the offer makes a little more sense.
There is something about paying now and not having to worry with it again till Nov 2018.
With the training here, I built a website that was making me more than $299 a month within 4 months. So to me, i re-invested in the business. Perhaps I will feel differently a few years down the road.
This could be me just justifying my own purchase! lol... but this is the way I see it. To me, I just cut my expenses in half. #winning
yes, I understand what you're saying. The thing is that I don't like paying up front when I (still) don't know what I'm going to get.
In six months I'll be signing up, and then I've 'lost' $150
But that money goes to:
- my possibility to cancel any month I like (peace of mind)
- WA (WA deserves every penny of it anyway)
If all works the way I want it to work, I'm signing up in half a year. Otherwise... I may spend a little less that I would by now signing up for a year.
Thanks!
It's good that you have a plan, but if I can make a suggestion, add an extra month into the "making money" phase. It doesn't happen overnight, but rather can take a while to occur. I've also seen several people here on WA who believe they have properly executed the training, but actually were far off target. If you're not making money as expected, take advantage of the community to evaluate what you have done and see if everything is as optimal as possible. The training here is a template, and a powerful one at that, but individual interpretation can affect countless factors in the success timeline.
you're right! I'll just put that into the Think hard step :-)
Basically what I need to see is that my site(s) pick up steam and get more and more visitors as I add more and more content.
If that is the case, I will wait as long as it takes to make money.
Getting traffic is step one.
Getting visitors to buy something is step two, and I'm a tech guy, so the selling part is not my forte.
I'm certainly going to ask for input if my sites won't convert.
Thanks!!

It sounds like you have mixed emotions and doughts if this is for you.
You are loking at the short time and not the ong run.
You are willing to spend $250 for five months when $40 more will get you another 7 months.
I understand about were to use the money especially with the holidays coming up.
Its one mans opinion I feel its a mistake. You are telling your self that this mite not work.
Wrong attitude.
Hi Nick, thanks for your point of view.
One thing you don't mention is that the $299 is up front, and the $50 is per month. This is a big difference to me, and although you might see this is a mistake, for me, with my knowledge at this point, this is the correct decision to make. :-)
I do appreciate your input though!
Can you possibly barrow the funds and pay it back every month.
Just an idea.
yes I could, but I dislike debts.
now that I come to think of it, apparently I dislike paying up front, and I dislike paying afterwards.
. . . I guess I like paying in the here and now.. whatever that means ;-)
No worries, my mind is made up already ;-)
