Things That Make Me Smile

When I hear a baby cry, I think, “That’s what babies do.” And I smile.

When I hear a 6 year old whining for ice cream, “That’s what 6 year olds do,” I think, and I smile.

When I hear a teenager grumble that no-one understands and “It’s really difficult to get up in the morning,” I think: “That’s what teenagers do then I smile.

When I see the grass grow after the rain and I have to mow the lawn, I think: “That’s what grass does,” and I smile.

When I see the nearside tyre on the car flat, I think: “Is that what tyres do?” I still smile.

When I hear the birds sing, I know, that’s what birds do, and I smile, because so much in this life is just as it should be.
