Accepting Your Limitations

I had an earlier appointment and some errands to run, so I got home a little after 4pm, thinking I would have several hours to go online and work on my site...It's now a little after pm. With the exception of making a few comments, this is my first time online.

Why the delay?

I suffer from intense headaches/migraines. In actuality, I really don't know the difference between the two, nor have I been officially diagnosed. But the pain gets intense way beyond what relief extra strength Tylenol can offer, so I take prescription medication, lay down, and wait for the pain to subside. So instead of being able to write for my site, I attempted to take a nap to sleep away the pain. Unfortunately, I'm out of my meds, so I took some over the counter meds, not quite as powerful, which explains why it took 4 hours for it to disappear.

I'm feeling much better now! I love drugs (prescription drugs and in moderation, of course). I'll admit it, I was a bit annoyed, after all, I had a plan for the day, having an intense headache for about 12 hours was not part of the plan...it's actually never part of my plan! But, I had to make the adjustment; I could have attempted to "push through" which not only would have made the pain worse, I probably would have also written something crappy (hard to believe, I know).

There's a fine line between just pushing past the pain and attempting to scale that "wall" and knowing when you need to just stop and rest. We can write out our "things to do" lists, focus on our goals, and make our plans, but sometimes, our bodies take over and force us to stop.

I'm not sure why I suffer from these intense headaches; initially, I thought it was a result of a cyst that's in my brain, but it'snot. I know, that sounds intense, but the cyst just containers fluid, I've known about it for 20 years. So, my doctor has recommended that I see a neurologist every year, just to monitor it (something that I have not been diligent in doing), but I do have an appointment to see a neurologist nest week.

I just felt great about feeling better, I just wanted to encourage someone, anyone, that it's okay to pause and take a break. Sometimes we can be so quick to force ourselves into doing something, but it turns out it's in the letting go that we need the most.

I hate getting those intense headaches - the worst one lasted close to 24 hours once - but I'm grateful that they don't last days, that I have a really cool doctor...oh, and the drugs...

Press on, folks, and as always...

Strive to Thrive,
Veronica

Hi Veronica

Sorry to hear you have to cope with this pain :/
I'm not sure Pharmakia (meds) is the way to go long term, pain killers can become very addictive. Have you tried to determine what is causing these headaches and migraines?

Praying for a better solution ;)

Best regards,
Kamil

I've been to a neurologist, but they couldn't find anything. It's been years since I've seen one but Inhave an appointment to see one next week.

The meds I take are non-addictive, or at least, non-addictive for me. I suffer from these headaches a few times a month so I take the meds on a as-needed basis. Once the heacache subsides, there no need for me to take the meds again.

I appreciate the well-wishes and prayers, Kamil.

Hey sorry for the head ache problem. I hope and pray that they disappear so that you will continue churning the Healthier you Blogs.

I appreciate thst so much! Thank you!

Get well soon!

Thanks, Reanna. All better!

Good morning Veronica,

So sorry to hear about those awful headaches. You say you have a good doc and take your painkillers, I hope there is another way
to mitigate or even solve this problem. Please check on Dr. Amen, there are many Amen clinics in the US, he specializes in brain scans and in bettering problems. Good luck.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

I appreciate your comment, Taetske. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing, Veronica.

Thanks for reading!

No problem.

Hi Veronica,
I know how you feel. I have suffered with Migraines since I was 16! I still have them occasionally. They're not as intense as they used to be, but I still have to take something and lay down until it subsides. I do feel your pain. That's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!! I'm glad to know you are feeling better now. I can see nothing gets you down for long....lol!!
Have a good evening, take care my friend.
Mary

WOW...since you were 16!!! Mine have only been for about 7-10 years, which is still a long time, but the past few years have been the most intense. My heart goes out to people who suffer from that kind of pain regularly. There really is a sort of comfort knowing that we're not suffering alone

I appreciate your comment, Mary. Have an incredible week!

Sorry to hear about the headaches V! It must be tough. Yup, we need to take a break now and then. But no more than 4 hours, get on with it ha ha :)

Aye Aye Captian Craig!!!

Hi Veronica life can be a real drag with a migraine. But I'm glad you found a way to ease your pain without letting it destroy your life. Ours in success and well being.

Thank you, Sid.

Nothing worse than not feeling well.
I hope they can get to the cause of your headaches, Veronica :-)

The not knowing is annoying, but I know people who suffer from this for days at a time, so I'm extremely grateful. I appreciate your kind words, John. Thank you.

Take a Tylenol and relax for the night dear veronica!

I rested for 4 hours...I feel great now, Papa!!!
