What Pages on a Website Should Not Be Indexed by Google

Hi Folks,

My apologies for 'regular' absense in recent times. I don't have any excuses, so I'll blame the very cold winter weather currently in New Zealand. Got to have something to blame!!

Anyway, moving on:

When catching up on emails last evening I was suprised to see a message telling me that Google had indexed a Privacy Policy on one of my websites. This really drew my attention because the title of the Policy appeared as 'Who We Are At [YOURSITE.com] - Ouch! I could only hope this didn't appear online.

Giving more thought to the indexing of Privacy policies reminded me of some years back when I learned that all 'legal' pages should be made 'no-index'. In recent times, I have not given thought to indexing or not indexing pages such as Privacy Policy, Disclaimers or Disclosures.

Today I have had done a little research to find out whether or not my Privacy Policies should be indexed. There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer, so I thought to enquire from my WA friends.

I'd be grateful to read your opinions on the indexing or not of these important Privacy Policy pages.

And, just to let you know that the Privacy Policy indexed yesterday does appear online with the correct Website Name, rather than 'YourSite'. The 'YourSite' version was on SiteContent, but I amended it prior to publishing the page. As the email I received shows the 'YourSite" version, it doesn't make sense to me that it's correct online, but it is true!

Best wishes for a great week.

I followed the training course thoroughly when it stated the privacy policy shouldn't be indexed. Received an email from google saying I've been indexed - got excited and found it was the PP page :( but I had originally checked off the noindex too. So there's probably a hiccup in the system

I'm not far along yet to understand why this would happen. But I agree with you our privacy pages should not be indexed
your friend Sandy

Thank you very much Sandy.
I appreciate your message :)

Privacy Policy pages should not be indexed.

I ticked all the No-index buttons available and my privacy policies - on more than one site - all got indexed. I then redid them all and updated, but since I did this in WP, I now don't know whether or not they are now indexed.

It's strange that your policies were indexed when you had ticked the no-index. It proves there can be hiccups in the system that we need to be aware of.

I hope you can soon see whether or not your policies are no-indexed.

Thanks so much for leaving your comment, Isabella.

I thought I remembered in the training that were supposed to "no indexed" these pages. I will confess though that when I updated I forgot to "no indexed" and got the same email. So my bad also.

Tried and True

Elaine

I'm pleased to know I have good company!
Thanks very much, Elaine :)

Should be no index.

Thank you Donald.

Thanks for sharing, Valerie.

You're welcome Roger.

Privacy pages for sure!

Thanks Michael. So, indexing is correct for Privacy pages?

No. There's no point in indexing them!

Thanks Michael, that's what I needed confirmed. I don't know what will happen with my Privacy Policies in each website. Perhaps re-submitting the Sitemaps, after making the change to no-indexing, might be the answer. I hope so!
