It All Depends on the Way We Look at Things

What do you do when you don’t Like the look of something?

Are you like I was when running away from a problem?

Or, do you bravely face what doesn’t look good and find a solution?

Until recently, I’ve been grateful for Google and all its endeavours to make the internet a place where quality information is available. But, when it came to changing Webmaster Tools to Google Search Console – well that has been something I’ve definitely not favoured.

For far too many months my affiliate site has suffered from the challenge of finding a new and suitable theme. Having used an incredible theme for several years, the necessity to change to a new theme was not a pleasant experience. I went through the process of trialing two different themes. The first theme I chose was not satisfactory, so I went down the track of changing to another theme. Quite time-consuming to get the right one for an existing website!

After much trial and error, the website arrived at a level of respectability in terms of appearance. However, what was going on with SEO needed investigation!

Enter Google Search Console

A few days ago I decided to log into Google Search Console to view current statistics. Oh, how horrid my experience was. No way would I revisit this Google tool. No matter what!

Those were my thoughts. Absolutely negative, I admit.

The reason for my absolute dislike of this Google tool was due to viewing a Grey coloured mass which meant little to me other than disaster. I was so horrified I didn’t want to think about it. I logged off Google Search Console and spent time wondering how I could deal with what appeared to be the end of my website. After all, what a horrible appearance. It had to be disaster was the way I looked at it.

Moving forward a couple of days, I reprimanded myself and again logged into Google Search Console. Wow, this time was completely different as on the screen appeared a mass of bright Green colour. On seeing this attractive colour, I decided to find what these two different responses meant.

Without going into detail, the experience of a Grey coloured mass was the result of clicking on a particular tab.

On revisiting, and clicking on a different tab, I saw the Green coloured mass.

The reasons for the different results are something I now understand and can work with.

So, the moral of this story is ‘Don’t make quick decisions at first glance’.

Due to the way I looked at those two results, I wasted a great deal of valuable time.

I hadn’t stopped to learn about Google Search Console and was not aware of what would be revealed when clicking on various links or tabs.

This is all about Mindset, which I strongly believe in. But I had let my mind become erratic when I saw something that wasn’t appealing to me.

Looking at things more carefully and learning the meaning of various appearances will save a significant amount of time and stress.

I’m aware that technically experienced people would not be negatively affected as I was. But maybe my experience will be of help to those starting out on an online journey.

Last of all - some kind words for Google.

I can’t imagine any form of online success without the many tools free for all to access, and provided by Google.

To your Success.

Good Morning Valerie,

As I am very much a visual person I can understand you did not like that grey color. We know that green presents hope, healing, and happiness so of course, one likes green a lot better.
Good, you found out about how it all functions, those different buttons, etc. I also "love" technology.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Good Afternoon Taetske,

Thank you very much for your comment.

Oh dear, I must apologize again for my inactivity. I'm sorry to have taken so long to respond to you. Please be assured I do appreciate your time and effort and I always enjoy reading your comments. One day I'll catch up! Well, at least I live in hope of being more active. I'll blame it on the very cold weather we're experiencing at present!!

I hope all is going well for you and Michael in your beautiful part of this wonderful world :)

Enjoy your day _ Valerie

Good Morning Valerie,

Have you heard a big part of Europe is suffering an African heat wave? As I live 8km from the coast it is ok here with 30C but inland and even up to the North some places have 44C and are on red alert. Spain is drying out. Had the first big fire, 20.000 hectares burned, some houses and lots of farm animals, so sad.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Good Morning Taetske,

I'm so sorry to learn about the heat wave in Africa. I wasn't aware of that, although I don't know why. It is usual to learn of such events through television news presented each evening at 6 pm.

What is happening in Spain reminds me of the outback areas in Australia. Over many years, some areas in Australia have been victims of dreadful fires. Last summer in New Zealand, some areas in the South Island experienced dreadful fires, with people being abandoned from their homes.

No doubt, disastrous events such as we've both mentioned must be due to global warming, or similar happenings.

Have an enjoyable weekend _ Valerie

Good Morning Valerie,

That was a misunderstanding. An African heat wave has spread over many European countries.

In Spain, we had the first victim. A 17-year-old boy who was helping his father on the field had a cold bath and died in hospital
.
It is predicted that Spain will see a rise of 4C over the coming years. I will not see it happen but most part of the country will have become a desert by 2100.

The new post I am writing on is on water which is already scarce here. It does not look good.

Good Evening Taetske.

There are so many unpleasant global events occurring that the world has become a sad place. However, I do wonder about events that may have occurred centuries ago and were not shared as they are today. Technology is greatly involved.

Enjoy your day _ Valerie

I do understand what you went through, as I am also technologically illiterate. It's good to learn something well before you try to see how it works for you. I need to do some education as well about Google analytics. I believe there are some good training materials available on here.

Hi Fran, thanks very much for your comment.

Yes, I've just discovered there are trainings here on both Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

Oh dear, why didn't I think to look for them, rather than stress. I can't answer my own question!!

thanks for sharing Valerie. I still prefer the old webmaster tools. But I am getting used to the console.

I agree totally, James. Webmaster tools was good enough for me, but the inevitable had to happen at some stage.

Thanks so much for leaving your comment :)

You may have put it off, and jumped to conclusions, but you didn’t just give up. That’s the key! Great perseverance!

Thanks so much, Anna. I enjoyed reading your comment. You are right regarding jumping to conclusions. That's something I've always been good at, unfortunately!

I do that often as well Valerie.

It's good to know I'm alone in doing that, Anna.
Thank you :)

Well done on working through it Valerie.

Derek

Thank you very much, Derek. I appreciate your kind words :)

You will be pleased that you worked through that one, Valerie, sometimes that first appearance can stop us in our tracks.

The great thing about the online world is that we usually only have to cross bridges once when we have worked things out it is full speed ahead.

Best wishes moving forward have a great weekend.

Thanks very much Alex for your comment. It's true what you say about having to work things out once only when working online.

On the other hand, things such as search engines, web design, and content creation are changing rapidly compared with ten years ago when I built my first niche website with almost no tuition. Also, it has been the most successful website I've had. It certainly is a rapidly changing world!

Anyway, as they say, 'it is what it is'!

You have a great weekend too, Alex.

There are fruits that you take difficult to peel it before you can enjoy what is inside.

Very true, Jimmy.
Thanks so much for your comment. It's good to be in touch again :)

You are welcome.
