About Ranking in the Search Engines

Hi folks,

Recently I've read several posts, comments or questions about Google's lack of indexing newly published posts, as well as posts published for several days, but not indexed or ranked.

So, I'm writing this with the hope that it will be of some level of help to newer members concerned about their posts not being indexed or ranked in Google.

Last evening, I published a post that had taken me far too long to write. It is not a long post. Just under one-thousand words in fact.

The reason it took to so long to write is that the subject is one promoted by those I believe to be more qualified writers or businesses compared to me.

The website niche is small and does not receive weekly care! Monthly is about all it gets!

In all honesty, I wondered if the post would even be indexed. I had no hope that it would rank at all!

However, I decided a short while ago to see if there were any results of this post with regard to search engines.

To my amazement, I discovered the post is not only indexed It is ranked on Page 1, Position 4 of Bing and Yahoo. But NO mention of Google!!

If a post ranks on Page 1 of Bing, we could expect it to be ranked somewhere in Google. But that's not the case, at least with the post I'm referring to!

I'm not in the least concerned about the lack of ranking in Google.

Whatever it is that is causing published posts to remain unranked in Google, I believe we just need to move on regardless of Google's lack of ranking and enjoy the benefit of Bing's acknowledgement of our posts.

Have a wonderful day.

Yea this yea has been interesting. On my wealthy affiliate account it says I havnt been ranked in a month. However when I go to google search console it says they are all ranked. I think it’s important to go based off that . It’s weird how things go off that. Thanks for writing

That's very strange, Kirsti. The main thing is not to be concerned about Google ranking. Continuing to create and publish quality content regardless of ranking is the wisest decision, and it seems that is what you are doing!
Thanks very much for your comment

Your so welcome

Very well done, Valerie! Please remember that Google is a fickle beast, and, IMHO, will eventually fall! Remember the saying, "The Bigger they are the harder they fall!" Keep that in mind!

Jeff

Perhaps this is the case, Jeff.

I'm not worried about what Google is doing. What I do care about is new and less experienced WA members concern that their posts are not ranked in Google.

Valerie

🤔 You are probably right about that, Valerie!

Jeff

Understanding that the Internet is dynamic and always changing, we know that Google will change as well. There are methods for ranking will be one way one day, and another way the other day.

Just create quality Content and wait for the Internet to change.

Absolutely, Brad!

I've seen so many changes from Google during the past fourteen years. What's happening now with Google is nothing to be concerned about.

I noticed the same thing the other day. But I realized I will never second guess google so why bother.
Phil must be in the know, with his son and Google.
We have to be very nice to Phil these days.lol.

Stephen

Unfortunately, any Google question directed to my son was met by either:

a) Sorry, Dad, not the area I'm working in or
b) Sorry, Dad, I'm bound by the confidentiality agreement.

I think the same as you do, Stephen.
There is no way we can manipulate or even make sense of Google. They are the big chiefs.
My intention in writing that post is to help new and inexperienced members not be concerned. There is nothing we can do about Google. The best thing is to focus on creating and publishing quality content that will eventually be recognized by the main search engine, be it Google or whichever!

So very true, Stephen.
Being super nice to Phil is of utmost importance. Lol😊

Valerie

😍.

I hear it is Sir Phil now.

Humbly
Stephen

Yes Sir Phil, your almighty omniscient and omnipotent being.
Your humblest of humble servant.
Stephen

Enough!!!

You can share the title, Sir Stephen.
No noses out of joint!

Respectfully
Valerie

There's something funny going on with Google, Valerie. Perfectly good posts and pages are being crawled by Googlebot but not added to the database. It may be some early-release (and therefore buggy) code to do with their next algorithm update.

Bing of course has its own algorithm which is totally independent of Google's.

Yes, I agree with what you say, Phil.
From many years of experience with Google, I'm sure the problem will be resolved. Over the years, Google algorithms have been updated, changed and whatever their desire. I have every confidence all will be fine.

Thanks so much for your response.

My youngest son worked for Google for 7 years out of their New York office. I wish I shared your confidence 😒.

I wish I had known about your son working for Google.
I would have sent him sunshine every day! :)😊

At 45, he's basically retired and just doing stuff he likes, such as organizing music festivals, teaching yoga, developing units in Bali, picking and choosing interesting IT contracts and discussing politics, the universe and everything with his Dad.

That is wonderful, Phil.
I'm sure you are a very proud Dad. You have every reason to be!
I wish you many more years together doing and discussing great things.

Thanks, Valerie. I'm proud of and happy with all of my children and grandchildren.

You are very welcome, Phil. I'm very happy for you.

I, too am proud and happy with my children and grandchildren, though small in numbers.

How many of each?

I have two daughters and four grandchildren.
Both daughters are wonderful to me and so are my grandchildren.
I am very fortunate and grateful for my small family.

Nice. I have 3 sons and 1 daughter, 1 grandson and 3 granddaughters. So sort of symmetrical.

That's lovely, Phil.
I'm so pleased for you. There will always be activity, comfort and care, especially for you.
We are fortunate to have our families. I couldn't imagine being without my family.

All my children have grown into adults that I enjoy talking to. And my grandchildren are heading that way too.
