The Impotence Of Being Ernest

I am running well late today, no excuses, I just need to keep going. How do you like the title ? Now, if you said it with a very 'plummy' accent, then most listeners would think you were referring to the play. The impotence of being Ernest is, of course, meant to be 'The Importance of Being Earnest'

This post has nothing to do with Oscar Wilde's play, or the actual true meaning of that group of words. Personally, I think it is important to be earnest, most of the time anyway.

No, this has nothing to do with any of that, it has to with keeping the 'Big G' happy, which in

turn, makes us happy.

We are told, in no uncertain terms, to avoid glaring errors in our posts. The grammatical 'Faux Pas' if you will. It has to be said though, I haven't any idea of what the criteria is, when it comes to what is acceptable or not. I would guess that speeling mistakes are a 'no no'. Sorry, couldn't resist.

For the most part, we need our writings to make sense, no gobbledygook. Correct word usage might be up there, I'm not sure though. I'm also thinking that the incorrect use of comma's and the like might not be high on the list. Whatever it is, we need to be sure that our work is 'clean' when it comes to the basics.

Here's what prompted this. My very first website is no longer with us, sad but true. I did, however, keep all the articles, as they were written in 'Site Content'. Over the last few weeks I have been 'revamping' some of them and publishing them on one of my other sites.

Going back over old posts isn't a bad thing to do. Most times I manage to add a few hundred words, restructure a few paragraphs and generally make the post better. This does include finding plenty of grammatical 'errors'.

Here's the thing. When I came to overhaul the last post, I noticed that it had never been indexed. (This was before I'd set up Google Analytics, or Console, or whatever it's called) My memory was triggered and I remembered being puzzled as to why it never got the nod from the 'G Man'

The reason, I would surmise, became apparent when I started to go through it. In the first two paragraphs alone, there must have been at least six mistakes. Spelling, extra words and nonsensical sentences. It was painful and the rest of it did nothing to ease my discomfort.

Some of my favouritesare joining wordtogether and missing letters out. I also have a tendency to swap letters around, in fact I'm alwasy doing it. 'Form' is another one, it should be 'from'. Quite often I will miss a letter out but it never gets picked up because the remaining letters actually make a legitimate word. Dine without the 'e' becomes 'din' for example.

Anyway, I have since finished 'touching' up said article, and have published it. I will wait, with bated breath, to see if 'G'ster' likes my second attempt and graces me with some good old-fashioned indexing.

It could take up to about three weeks, which seems to be the average on all the other posts I've added to that site. It's all 'Au Naturel', as this site is not a 'property' on the 'Google Search Console.'

So, I'll let you know the outcome. As soon as I know, you'll know and then we be all knowing together.

Pleasant evening be upon you.

Twack Romero.

Great that you can utilise some of those old posts and you’ve re-looked at them and seen what a newbie you were back then.

I’m sure that I will look back on my posts I’ve written recently at some point and think how rubbish they are. It’s a learning curve and the great thing is you now have proof that you’ve learned new skills and improved significantly.

I’m sure Mr Google will give you the nod now tagt the speling mistakes and grammar hav been corrected 👍🏻🤣

Nice touch at the end there Alex.
Yep, some of my early stuff is cringeworthy, to say the least. I remember very little of those writings but do remember that getting to 1k of words was hard work. Now, going back in and adding a few hundred seems to be par for the course.
One of the reasons I set up the spreadsheets was to be able to keep track of which articles have had a face lift.
Hope you're having a fantastic day.

The spreadsheets are a great idea, I think I’m going to copy and get mine done. It makes sense.

Potentially, there is loads you can do with them, not that I have yet, but I could. 😊

Cool design and title

Thanks Jeffrey. A few snips and a modicum of Canva.

Such a lot here even when you are hardly trying or is that very trying!! lol
I really liked the Oscar Wilde version and thought it very clever in its twists and turns...I don't think it's the grammatical 'Faux Pas' as much as the mangling of it especially when there is 'grammarly' to screw it up some more and spell check which is why they are so particular.
If you think about it the 'dumbing' down that has taken place in the western hemisphere in such a an infinitesimal relatively brief time period has been spectacular!! let alone that grammar has not produced a word in the UK from the 16th Century, makes us the originators of the language have a bloody cheek to tell everyone else to mind their grammar when we longer give a fig is a double standard too far to say the least!!

There are some who think it is clever? to misuse to such an extent that they are too clever by half!! the funny thing is that they themselves tout they are too clever.. I would say by half which is even worse...however there will be a price to pay which their purported cleverness which is really silliness will extract they will find out in the fullness of time as they publish with gay abandon and I mean that literally not figuratively...of course it can be done...however in moderation as in most things!!

Finally and I have cut this as I will end up taking your thread or you may wish to hire as a content writer...lols your assertion that the website doesn't even have recognition or the fact that you are unperturbed when or if it gets indexed has me in an apolepsy of laughter as others bust a gut to do the exact opposite and it must be a chasm too wide to bridge and consider you as stark raving lunatic which you most certainly aren't...lols

As you can tell I can happily go on only think that is quite enough as decency allows and I fear I just edged over the limit or so my instincts tell me...lols

First job of the WA day, leave a reply on the best comment of the day, ever. Thank you Rami, it was an absolute joy to read and let me add, there are no limits when it comes to your replies.

I have heard the arguments, in regard to grammar. Those that think it's ok to butcher it, always say that language is a 'living thing' and should be allowed to evolve. It is, after all, a reflection of the society that speaks it, which kind of says it all.
As for the website, well, it's place that allows me the freedom to write as I see fit, without restraints and about anything. No point in adding self induced pressure, as that sort of defeats the object.
Throw into the mix a 'nom de guerre' of a 'nom de guerre', just for the lol's.
My apologies for the lateness of my response but this is literally the first visit today.
Hope you're having a good one.

Hey,
Your as ever too kind!! only your audience arrives to read your much enjoyable offers not my drivel..lols. Thank you for your kind permission the same of course extends to you.

A 'nom de guerre ' of a nom de guerre' for the laughter is worthy of something coming out of Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones!! lols

You must surely be aware there is absolutely no requirements for an apology as it is superfluous in requirement, to borrow a leaf with your kind consent...; thank you as ever for your gracious reply especially when you are so pushed for time but really anytime will do as it's never not at all!! ;)

Any mention of the 'Pythons' puts a smile on my face. 😊

Your title made me laugh.😅 I am always paranoid about incorrect grammar and misspellings. I read and re-read, but I'm certain I'm missing something somewhere. Like "their", "there", and "they're".

Glad I'm not alone; carry on!

Thank you Cynthia, glad you enjoyed it.
I tend to find most of my errors after I've published, I'm even worse with comments, forever having to 'edit' them.

Cynthia,you had better include me as well as Twack in your list ...lols ;
