Chicken And Chocolate Sauce Anyone ?

No ? Don't fancy it ? Come on, fresh out of the oven, chicken, in a rich chocolate sauce. Mmmm.

Before we get into it and while you're salivating over the thought of it, two disclaimers. First I'm

a vegetarian, in fact whenever we're out (which is pretty much never) I normally say that I'm vegan, I'm not, but it's just easier than trying to explain what I do and don't eat, as I don't eat dairy either. I know that being vegan, nowadays, is more than just leading a plant based lifestyle. Big respect if you are. Could say more but won't.

Saying that, I did read a comment on a website, the other week, where someone said that they were "Somewhat vegan" and were told in no uncertain terms that you either are or you aren't, there is no 'somewhat'. So if the respondent is reading this, no offense but I am somewhat vegan.

What was the second disclaimer ? Oh yes, if you're busy then feel free to click off now and go and do someone productive, I am asking for some indulgence in this post and there is no earth-shattering content contained within. I won't be offended.

As another sidebar, I just saw this come up on a Quora 'notification'. It looks like the powers that be, in regard to dealing with those unscrupulous 'scam' sites, have finally started to take some positive action towards the owners and peddlers of such.

"NASA has spotted a strange, shiny object lying on the Martian surface."

Looks like they've put on their 'big boy pants' at last.

Down to business and the essence of this post. I could do with your help or at least 20 seconds to type something.

I've already shelved a 760 word post this morning, I really lost my thread with it. That's why we're here now. The title, for the vast majority, will have us pulling some sort of face, likely one that reflects disgust. Although I'm not sure why, we have 'Duck à l'orange', or 'canard à l'orange' don't we ? In my book, cranberry sauce would be on the list.

In truth, chicken and chocolate sauce is an odd combination. There is a chance, however, that

someone, somewhere will like that dish. You know it's true. We were having a conversation down at the garage the other lunchtime and someone mentioned that one of their favourite meals was roast beef, chips and curry sauce. This then led to a hearty discussion about various meals that have a certain 'artistic license, shall we say. Mars bars and onions was another one. Blurgh. There really is no accounting for a persons tastes.

Me being me, thought it would be a great idea to write an article about it. The next day I asked them all to reiterate them again. I managed to write down about seven different food oddities.

Just in case you're wondering, I do have a place for the article. My latest site is all about 'random' which basically means I have no restrictions on my subject matter. I allow myself a certain 'latitude', 'carte blanche' if you will.

OK, so why are you here ? I could probably ask around and try to squeeze a few more weird ones (I was trying to think of other words to describe this, rather than 'oddity' and 'combination'. All I came up with was 'commodity' but I think that's already taken) but I thought of you, aren't you pleased.

Short and sweet, if you have an unusual mixture, then please drop it in the comments. No more or less is required of you. Other comments are available and no palates' were injured during the making of this post.

Have a thunderous Thursday.

Twack Romero.

As a fellow Veggie/occasional vegan I fear I am lacking in the crazy combo contributions.

I absolutely love that you have a 'random' category website!

I am now pretty sure we have known each other in a previous life. Or maybe it is just that we have lots in common in this life. Either way it is a great combo of chocolate and strawberries. Let's leave those wonderful chickens to wander free ; )

I think Dr.Who started it with 'fish fingers and custard'
Blurgh.
Might have to do some 'research' as I'm not sure who I've been before. I'm not always sure who I am these days, actually.

Ok, so once again this reply was fuelled by the chardonnay I was drinking. (I stick by the strawberry and chocolate combo! Fish fingers on their own have never floated my boat, so defo no to Fish Fingers and Custard!!! A vegan's nightmare.

Past Lives... just going to leave that one out there, while I continue connecting the dots : )

Interesting post about “oddinations”, that being the word I came up with since, as you said, commodity is already taken.

My son has always enjoyed eating his french fries (chips to you) dipped in his milkshake. Odd maybe, but I tried it and liked it. I like other sweet & salty combinations...chocolate covered pretzels, sweet & sour chicken, (hold the chocolate) salted caramel candy, etc.

One person’s gourmet food is another’s rubbish. Still, all things considered, an enjoyable topic!

I like 'oddinations'
I have also heard that milkshake is a good 'dip' for fries. I have a real 'sweet tooth' when it comes to caramel but just can't get on with the whole 'salted caramel' thing. I can just about manage salted popcorn.
Thank you for another addition to the list.

Im used to eating strange combinations. Im from Pittsburgh, and we have a restaurant that is known for its French fries and coleslaw on (or in) it's sandwiches. 🤢 nope, I don't like them. But peanut butter on bologna, and bananas and peanut butter are good.

Chicken and chocolate though? I might just try it 🙂

Oh my, what inspires people to come up with these odd mixtures ? French fries and coleslaw I could just about manage but I would draw the line at 'peanut butter and bologna' However, it can go on on the list, that's for sure.
I really appreciate your input Haze and it's nice to meet you. I will take this opportunity to 'follow' you.
Thank you again.

No offense I love meat. I also don't like it when people say they are halfway vegan or meat only and so on. You are or you are not. Great post and I think I am headed to get some food I am hungry after reading this for some odd reason.

None taken Douglas, we're all different. For me, it's just easier to say I'm vegan if we're out, mainly because most vegetarian options have cheese in, which I don't eat.
True 'Vegans' go the whole hog, no pun intended. I admire their dedication, as it must be hard.

Right and it’s their decision and I don’t have any issues with that.

May I ask what has got into you today? it wasn't the inability to loose a thread and have to shelve a 760 to make as many as you can including yourself queasy.. no I don't buy that your too pragmatic for that...Aye ya' havnae a scoobie if ya nae tried a full batter mars bar deep fried at the ole' chippie with a fizzy juice irn bru nae less then aff tae the local boozer fer a coupla pints and a blether ye'll no be surpriesed if yer feelin a bit peely wally aifter tho'...:)

You know, we were talking about the 'battered Mars bar', the further up north you go, the more readily available they are. Never tried one though. Next we'll be bringing in the 'Tatties and neeps'.

Lols, Originated in Glasgow so stands to reason. Yea cannie beat 'Haggis, tatties and neeps' they have been making the veggie version of Haggis for a while now that you need variety to your taste buds, quite good!
R.

I'm not sure I would have tried the 'original'. Black pudding would have been as adventurous as I'd go.

I thought it quite good the Simon Howie one! Foil sealed i hastily add but even then a bit greasy since they came out with the veggie version I prefer that much more no grease and tastier in my opinion so switched to it years ago!
R.

If I ever feel the urge, I will check that one out, thank you Rami.

Your welcome Twack, my pleasure!
