A Game Of Two Halves (Part Two ?)

I always remember the title being attributed to a football pundit, though I am sure it has been used over and over again by many people.(Just as a footnote, this isn't part two of a post entitled 'A Game Of Two Halves' but we'll get to that shortly)

It's one of those quotes that might be found in a book of cliches but I prefer to think of it coming from the mouth of Jimmy Greaves, along with a few other classic 'stating the obvious' lines.

There used to be a collection of commentator 'gaffes' called 'Colemanballs' named after the late David Coleman, who was a sports commentator. I mean, if you're in the commentating game, the chances are you're going to 'drop the ball' occasionally.

"and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green." That was a classic from 'Whispering' Ted Lowe, lovingly known as the 'voice of snooker'.

All of this leads me to the point where I shall complete Thursday's post 'Suck It Up Buttercup' of which a portion was about ideas that can be used if you're trying to build a following. Sadly, I only managed two of the five.

Still, I'm all about tying up loose ends, so I'd better get on with it. The first two we covered were to do with being active on both Quora and Reddit.

The third will probably not be everyone's cup of tea (this actually ties in quite nicely with the quote at the end. Look at that for planning ahead 😉) but it is actually a very good idea.

Join relevant Facebook groups. There it is, out in the open. Well, if you're looking for either like-minded people or those who might be interested in something you have to offer, it's a good place to 'hang out'. As with the previous two, you are looking to add value to the group and not just 'spam' everyone with your links.

It's also the perfect place to see what the 'pain points' are within whatever niche you are in. There's also a very good chance there will be opportunities to answer questions and show yourself to be a reliable and trusted source of information.

It's not best practice to just jump in with "No, that one's no good, this one's better". All in good time, all in good time.

The next one is outside my area of expertise, well it would be if I had one. It's to do with Instagram, which as yet, I haven't engaged on. The recommendation is that you should comment on relevant 'Hashtags' and leave responses.

Please feel free to add to that one, as I have nothing. It is worth getting into though, as it's another platform to push your online presence.

That brings us to number five. Again it's something that we are told time and time again to utilise but for many, it's quite a bit outside of their comfort zone. YouTube videos.

Quite a daunting prospect, though one of the notes I have by this one is 'simple'. It doesn't have to be a Hollywood blockbuster. Many of the top 'YouTubers' just use their phones and not much else.

Never underestimate how interesting you are to someone else. I remember that not long after I started here, Tiffany (@TDenise formerly TDomena) did a post that told of her doing a 90-day YouTube challenge.

I'm Doing a 90-Day YouTube Challenge (and it's a little scary)

It's not a bad place to start if you've been thinking about putting yourself out there. I seem to remember a few members got on board with it at the time.

Well, that's your five. I seem to have another page of notes but we'll save those for a future post. I have tied up one loose end at least.

I mentioned earlier that I would put a quote at the end that was relevant to the Facebook idea. I have a feeling that there will be those that will side-step anything to do with certain platforms because of previous bad experiences.

All I would say is that you shouldn't let the past stand in the way of your future. I heard the following as I was starting to write this post and thought it quite fitting. It was part of the dialogue in a TV show one of my sons was watching.

"Scars tell us where we've been, they don't have to dictate where we're going"

Good old Agent Rossi. Right, I'd better leave you in peace and start dinner. I've managed to pick up some fresh salad and that makes me happy.

Enjoy your weekend as only you know how my friends and remember to stay safe, healthy and happy.

Twack Romero.

Great advice for sure, Twack. It all works, it's proven. I know it all and I'm not doing any of these things. I was chasing various dreams and doing what others did for long. Got out of my comfort zone so many times. But in the end I was always stopped by something to find out it wasn't really what I wanted.
Now I just want to do what I love and not chase anything, I definitely know what I don't want. Maybe that's the biggest lesson :).

Thank you Lenka, sounds like you have it sorted. I think you might have something there, by knowing what you 'don't' want. It's a good way of looking at it all.

It seems it is. I feel so calm and grateful that it must be a good thing. Sometimes I even find it hard to believe that I'm so blessed.
Anyway, hope your Sunday is great.
What's the weather like in the UK now?
We're having a heat wave here so it's proper summer, we are more outside than inside.

I would say that it all comes from within and our own perspective.

Cloudy and windy with occasional sunshine, which is better than the rain we have had over the previous days. I think we had our summer a few weeks ago.🤔.

It will be a great day, as I am sure yours will be also.

Hi Twack,
Thank you so much for your inspiring article. I had a big feud years ago with Facebook and refuse to use them. But seeing your quote "don't let your past get in the way of your future".

That opened my eyes to the need to get into more social media. I have an old clunky Windows 7 computer that has no camera nor am I a cell phone user (no need really). But I can get on Facebook and Instagram.

Thanks again.

Bill

You are very welcome Bill, you've made my day.

Certainly worth entertaining the social media side of things, used properly they can all be a huge source of traffic.

I have only just upgraded from '7' to Windows 10, in the last couple of months. I still think that '7' is more than adequate for the majority of what we do, It's only the updates that you will be missing now.

Have a spectacular day.

No cellphone? Are you Fred Flintstone?

Makes me envious and in truth, were it not for having to be 'contactable' for the children, I could easily go without.

Hi Neil,
Yabba-Daba-Do. Have a great week.

Bill

Like it.😂

I like that quote Twack and its very true. However I will get round to using other social media platforms before wasting time on facebook, lol.
I occasionally flip through Instagram and just 'like' a load of stuff. It produces a flurry of interest in mine, which makes me feel I tried. Then I forget it for another few weeks.
You tube is one that interests me, I am still trying to learn a bit here and there. My grandson offered to do a video for me but I feel I should do it myself perhaps with his expert advice. Though his area is more actual films.
Good post, made me think and prodded me about social media. I need to do more than twitter on a regular basis.Thank you.

You are most welcome.

I like the 'compromise' with FB, at least it's still on the table.

I have the desktop app for Instagram but I really have no clue as to how I could untilise it yet. I did think I could repost all of the FB quotes that I put up each day. Apparently 'consistency' is high on the list with Insta, so maybe I could do that at the same time as FB. I think there might be a way to link them, as they're in the same family now.

I reckon YouTube is the 'biggy' though, another couple of weeks and I should be at the right point to start promoting it and transcribing the videos into site posts as YouTube likes to see videos embedded. Might have to work on the SEO as well.

We're getting there. Have an epic Sunday.

“An open mind is the key to a life of success which 80% of the World lacks so join the 20% for others to look up to.” Tom Short.

Tom.

Once again your quotes are 'on the money' Tom, thank you for popping in.

Great post and advice

As always, I thank you for dropping in, always good to see you here. Have an epic day.

I had to read part two my friend

Happy that you did.🙏
