I Hope I Wasn't The Only Person Who Thought This.

I totally own it, I'm new to blogging and creating websites. I've been following the training and publish my first blog post. Amazing right?

No, I look at the post on my main page and see that there is no place to leave a comment. I scroll through all of my posts (on my main page) and see there is no way to comment on any posts.

My first thought....what did I do wrong?

After finally clicking around on my posts, I realized that I needed to click ON my post and scroll to the bottom then I could see the comment window. I thought I wonder how many other people wouldn't know about that and how can I fix it.

I start searching the question archive here at WA, and I'm also searching in WordPress help forums.

I found this great post from MarionBlack (I think I linked to this correctly) that talks about adding the Read More break in your posts. Now if someone clicks on the read more/continue reading link the comments will be available at the end of the post.

Thank you for creating that article. I wish I would have found it 45 minutes earlier in my search. LOL

I just wanted to share this because I'm guessing that someone else might have thought the same thing as me.

Always on a quest to learn more and more each day.....Hope everyone had a Happy New Year!

Nancy

Yeah, this is not unique to you. All homepages are organized different, this can be more confusing when it shows the full post without the comment area.

Most themes will show just a snippet of content and a "read more" which makes this far more intuitive.

Not to worry, now you know. 99% of your traffic is going to come directly to the posts where they can leave comments directly.

Thanks Kyle. I feel better now that I added a read more button on my homepage. :-)

Great share Nancy.
I would believe there are members who benefit if they are reading this i.e people only comment on single post page and not on the blog roll.

As you pointed out, you could have saved 45 minutes if you search it here or straight away ask the community.

All the best.

Joe:)

Thanks Joe....
I honestly had no idea why that was happening last night and was ready to pull my hair out last night trying to figure out "why" it wasn't working.
Just want to give back to the community that's helping me too!
I also made my post a favorite so I can find it again in case I forget. LOL

You can rest assured that you are not the only one that has arrived at the same point and wondered where did I go wrong. Personally I have done that same thing, figure it out and the very next time I post I do it again. When will I ever learn?

The one big problem I have is not knowing where to find answers without having to search for extended period of time. I dislike posting a question on the help section because when I receive an answer I feel like a dummy. Know that others do not think of me as dumb but is my self image impression. Some times feel like I am trying to receive an award for the most questions asked...LOL.

Maybe the old say, "The only dumb question is a question not asked" applies.

Barry

Thanks Barry, I feel the same way. My daytime job is a software trainer so I'm usually looked at as the "expert". That makes it hard for me to ask for help. LOL
What I've done is click on the star of the post (once I find the post...ha ha) so I can quickly call it up again in the future. By clicking on the star in the question line to call up my favorites.
