Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.
Back in the day, guest blogging used to be a respectable thing, much like getting a coveted, respected author to write the introduction of your book. It’s not that way any more. Here’s an example unsolicited, spam email that I recently received:

Pretty soon the only way to get good rankings will be to publish quality content on your own site. I think most of us are looking forward to that :)
Good point about SEO.. But I do feel compelled to add that guest blogging for the purpose of expanding your readership by providing value to someone else's readers and earning a few in the process is still a GOOD thing.
Trialynn didn't say otherwise of course... the point mad was to not to do it JUST for inbound links and SEO purposes, which is a great.. but I wanted to add for newbies that guest blogging for the true purposes of guest blogging i still a great way to help build a readership.

yep, saw this- and can see why. Pity, because guest blogging should be more respectable, however, IMO they can't get the bots and their algorithm to differentiate the good from the bad.......thanks for the publicizing of the current situation tho' Tereza- Good value as always, Andy
