What Will Matter
What Will Matter:
For each of us eventually whether were ready or not, some day it will come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no more minutes or hours or days.
All the things you collected, wither treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance, it will not matter what you owned or owed.
Your grudges, resentments and frustrations and jalousies will finally disappear, so too your hopes plans ambitions and to do list will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away; it won’t matter where you came from, or on which side of the tracks you lived at the end. It won’t matter if your beautiful or brilliant, even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success but your significance, what will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched empowered and encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence but your character, what will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you gone? What will matter is not your memories, but the memories of you that lived in those who loved you. A life lived that matters is not of circumstance but of choice.

Well said. I choose to believe you take your good qualities with you when you pass on. One does not want to be able to only fill a small plastic bag with those qualities..... :)
Enjoyed reading this very much. Being selfless is not so easy these days, so being reminded every now and again is a very good thing. Its amazing to me that everything I seem to think about these days is being talked about by someone. Some would say thats a sign, if it is its a good one. Bless your new year trbutler.
This is an excellent post and an ideology of "opportunity" that we aim to harbour here at Wealthy Affiliate. I personally love this piece:
"So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave."
Those that truly realize opportunity in life are those that view it as a two way street. The opportunity to help is essentially the opportunity to personally grow (including wealth). People tend to think of opportunity as selling...or taking money from others...when in actuality, that is the opportunity of helping others that leads to success.
Building something awesome and they shall come. Give and you shall receive. :)
I agree Kyle...many times our way can become clouded by our own purposes and goals, that if we are not careful we can miss out on the bigger opportunity. To help someone else achieve their hopes and dreams. I love what you guys have created here. Not only do I have the opportunity to learn and grow, but I also have the opportunity to take others along with me. Be proud of the legacy you have created, and are creating with each and every positive change you make you. Thank you for reaching for the DREAM!!!
Thanks for the kind words, but we cannot take full credit for the community here. It is the folks like yourself and many others that make this place so amazing in terms of help, kindness, the willingness to share, to teach, and to help others grow. In the process, we all are able to reach levels of success we never thought were possible!
To a successful year ahead...one full of giving, teaching, sharing, and subsequently receiving! ;)
