So ...

Upon activation, you'll find new item in your admin menu bar labeled SEO with the YOAST SEO logo on it:

As you can see, you'll be taken to the "General" settings page. The first "Dashboard" tab will show you a first-time configuration wizard:

Forget it ... We are going to configure the plugin step by step ...

Now let's see the second "Features" tab ...

This is where you can enable or disable the main features ...

If you click the question mark next to the name, you'll get a short explanation and more importantly, a link to a helpful YOAST article or tutorial related to the given feature.

The last "Webmaster Tools" tab will allow you to submit your site to Google, Baidu, Bing and Yandex. You have even direct links that will allow you to access the needed pages:

Now the thing is that usually, when you want to verify your site you'll have to upload an HTML file into your root folder or to add a provided meta tag to your source code. And of course, most beginners are afraid to alter the source code or to upload a file via FTP. But, as I said, YOAST is extremely user friendly ... All you have to do, is to add the provided meta tag in the according fields under the "Webmaster Tools" tab and YOAST will do the heavy lifting ...

And one more thing ... Wherever you are, you'll see a questionmark icon or a hyperlink that will provide you with instant help ... For example, if you click the "NEED HELP?" button on the "Webmaster Tools" tab, a new window will appear with an easy-to-follow video tutorial, knowledge base search feature and support link:

OK. Now let's move forward to the next lesson the discuss the search appearance configuration ...

Hi,
Loved your very informative lesson.
My question is do you need to deactivate the all in one SEO first before you install YOAST or does YOAST just overtake the all in one SEO?
Thanks Sue

You'll use YOAST instead of AIO SEO, so yes, you'll have to delete it ... But, if you don't want to configure YOAST and your already published content manually, you might want to import the AIO SEO settings into YOAST before you remove it.

Very informative tutorial. I haven't used YOAST but the features you have highlighted show it to be very user friendly and configurable to give excellent results. Definitely something I will take a closer look at. Thank you for posting.

So Zed, when you upload Yoast, what happens to the one that we already have? Does it just magically disappear? And how much does the premium version of Yoast cost?

I don't understand Teri ... What should disappear?

YOAST Premium is €79 for one site.
