Custom Menu

Custom menus are easy to set up but are often very confusing to people. These allow you to place your pages in any order you like on your menu bar and allow you to have drop down menus if you like.

Head over to Appearance in your WordPress dashboard and click on Menu.

Give your new menu a name and press the "Create Menu" button.

Now that your menu is created, you have to activate it under theme locations. Choose where you want this menu to appear. This theme has only one option; your theme may have several.

Once you do that, hit SAVE under the "Theme Options" location.

Next you will need to add some pages to your new menu. This couldn't be easier. Just scroll down to the Pages area, choose which pages you want to see on your menu, then click "Add to Menu."

Now all your pages should be in the menu area. You can drag and drop these in any order you like. From top to bottom, will be the order they appear in from left to right on your menu bar.

You may want to add some drop down menus to your website. This is just a matter of moving one of the pages slightly to the right. If i want to see "Free Tools" on the menu bar so that when someone mouses over that they will see "Free Keyword Tool," "Free SEO Suite," and "True Open Source." I arrange them like this (see below). You can do drop down menus on your drop down menus too if you like.

The end result on your website will look like this:

Thanks everyone I am really glad you like it. I was hoping to have a place to link to when new members ask these questions, because it takes awhile to try to explain these things in text.

Great tutorial!! I wish I had this 2 years ago when I started. It's even clarified some of the steps/setup for me now.
