Did you Update Anything!?

Unfortunately, while updating is a great way to keep your site secure and functioning properly, sometimes corrupted or wonky files are introduced when you update an item.

Because of this I would recommend ALWAYS backing up your site before you start updating things just in case something breaks (could be a lot worse than just missing your Wordpress visual editor).

When you first log in to your site everyday it is normally pretty good about making updates super obvious. If you want to double check though you can click on dashboard and then look at the update option. If updates are available there will normally be a number next to it telling you how many there. It will show all the updates available for Wordpress, your themes, and your plugins.

When you click on the updates it will take you to a page showing you everything you need to update. Once everything has been updated then you will get this lovely message from Wordpress when you go to this area.

If you have recently updated anything there is a chance you might have gotten a corrupted version of it. As mentioned previously, you can try deactivating your plugins one by one to see if it comes back or deactivate all of them and then reactive one by one. In the case of plugins you can delete and try reinstalling a good version. You can do the same for themes but you will lose any settings you had with it.

Normally in these cases I would simply contact support (premium members only) especially if the problem occurs right after you upgrade your Wordpress.

Yet again, want to emphasize backing up your site just in case (even though WA support is awesome)

Still having visual editor problems!?

One last thing to do.

Nice one Jean, this has been asked a LOT just lately, I was getting deja vu. Now I can just point to this training!

Yeah thats how I have felt the last month. I got the idea for the training when I spent a few hours trying to help someone and realized I had to jump from blog post to blog post and from question to question to find the different options that worked for people. I have just been slacking in actually getting int done... =)

Great tutorial, Jean!

Just like you, I was completely unaware of the visual editor being disabled as you described on page 2 of the tutorial! I'll keep that in mind ;)

And I am sure this tutorial will be very helpful to many WP users inside and outside WA ;)

Oh hi Alex!

It means a lot that you find it useful since you post so much useful stuff for people. But after spending the last few weeks answering the question about the editor over and over I realized there wasn't some easy tutorial for me to link to them!
So I figured I should go ahead and give it a go. One day i'll move up to videos like the big boys =p.

Jean, that's exactly how success is born.
Find a gap in the industry and fill it! Find what information is missing and create that information! Once again, great job ;)

I might post a lot of stuff but I don't know everything. That's one of the reasons I've been with WA for so long - always learning new stuff!

Good job, Jean. This really needed to be done, as I see so many people that this is happening to. Now we can just refer them here! Thanks!

Awesome job on this training, you covered it all, with great images :-) My culprit when I had this problem was the TinyMce and the wp edit being run ( activated) at the same time. THey were working fine until one day they decided they did not want to play nicely anymore :-( de-activating them both and adding one back and clearing my cache did the trick. Thanks for the great training on this.

Yeah I was thinking about you for half of it =). Not to mention everytime we are in live chat someone pops in with the problem. Though I guess you could just always skip right to support if you dont feel like dealing with the hassle at all.
