Below the WordPress editor in the All In One SEO Pack area there are 3 Meta Tag fields. Of those 3 you should never waste your time filling in the Keyword Meta Tag. Matt Cutts (formerly of Google) has said to not pay any attention to the Keywords Meta Tag. Google and the other search engines do not use that anymore to rank SEO.
As for the Title Meta Tag, you can manually enhance this, but if you have already constructed your page or post title correctly, there is very little need to play around with this text. The only time I change it is if I cannot get my keyword into the initial title.
Example: On my “Getting Started” page, the keyword for that page is “How to Stay Clear of Online Scams” but you do not see that on my website, it just says Getting Started. This is because I saved the page draft as Getting Started and then I added the keyword to the Title Meta Tag so that it read, “Getting Started – How to Stay Clear of Online Scams”.
So as you can see in the image above, when my Getting Started page appears in the Google search engine results, it contains the keyword in my page title even though it just says Getting Started in my website menu. It is very important for SEO that your keyword appear in your page or post title.
FILL IN THE DESCRIPTION META TAG
Of the two Meta Tags you can manually type in, the Meta Description is the one you can update as many times as you like. Why would you even bother with the Description Meta Tag? Because this snippet of text is what compels search engine users to click on your link.
Though the page or post title is the first thing that will get the attention of the person searching in Google, it is the Meta Description that will help to seal the deal so to speak, and get the person to click on your link. This is a process known as CTR or Click-Through Rate.
I always strive to create the first 140 characters of my content to contain my keyword so that it will appear in my Meta Description should Google decide to use it based on the search query by the person searching on Google.
By creating the very beginning of my content in this way, the All In One will automatically use it for the Meta Description because it auto-generates it from the first 160 characters of your content. I go into further detail as to why I do this in my SEO Keyword training at the link below.
