For our purposes, a niche market is not just a small segment of a large market. A niche market is one that has a specific need that is not being supplied. How much research did you do to find your market and the products that you are promoting?
I worked as an executive in industry for many years and worked with designers and marketers to produce the products they needed for the market place. One time we designed a product for marketing that was a complete failure. It was an unneeded product for a nonexistent market.
So what happened? Our marketing people asked the wrong questions to focus groups. They asked which of our prototypes that they liked best. They evidently did not ask whether the product was needed and would be purchased.
The perceived market was there but they wanted our high-end products not a lower cost substitute all-purpose product.
So if a big company can make a mistake, so can we.
The solution here is to go back to your original thinking to see if it faulty or if something is missing.
Just a thought . . .
