Once again a hashtag in a tweet is pretty much the same as a keyword is to website content. Unlike a keyword you do not need to pick one that has a low competition. Matter of fact, the opposite is true. A hashtag that is very popular and is used more often is better for your tweet. So where can you find popular hashtags?

USE THE SEARCH BAR

Up in the right corner of every screen on Twitter there is a search bar. When I want to see if a hashtag is popular I will type it into the search bar. As you can see in the image below I did a search for the word Entrepreneur by typing in #entrepreneur and clicking search.

This will then display every instance of the hashtag #entrepreneur used on Twitter. Sometimes depending on how popular or broad the word used, you will get related search results, where in this case I was also given the hashtags of #startup and #business, as seen on the left side of the image.

I highly recommend that before you start tweeting, you do a search for popular hashtags that are related to your niche and would be good to capture the attention of your target audience. When you do use hashtags in your tweets, it is best to use no more than two. The only time I will use three is when one of the hashtags are either #BMRTG or #BTRTG.

Both of these hashtags are triggers for the tweet that they appear in to be retweeted. They are used for the Business Marketing ReTweet Group (BMRTG) and Business Talk ReTweet Group (BTRTG). Of course like other social media networks, a “Like” is great but a share or “Retweet” is what we all seek on Twitter.

Thanks again Robert for your great training. I have never used social media until now and am gradually getting the hang of it. This is great to help me with Twitter. I look forward to seeing your training on the other ones too - some I have never even heard of until recently!!!

You are welcome Lucinda. I am happy that my training on the use of Twitter has been helpful to you. I wanted to make this training as clear and easy to understand as possible for those who are new to social media.

Being that it is important to use social media to advance the traffic and rankings of our websites, I will eventually be doing more training on the other social media networks as well.

I have a quick question for you Robert - if your time permits.

When I did the Google search for #workfromhome and links to your content came up in positions 6 and 7, I noticed that your picture was adjacent to those search results. I thought Google Authorship was gone though. How did you manage to include an Authorship picture?

Thanks!

Dennis

Yes Google Authorship is gone but not Author Rank and Google still wants to know who belongs to which website so that they can better rank you. This is why it is still important to set up a connection between your website and Google+.

Those images you are seeing are from two different Google+ posts of my website in which I used the hashtag #workfromhome. Being that my website is associated with my Google+ profile and I am the author it will show my Google+ profile image next to my links.

Good Info! Thanks and yet another way to introduce yourself to prospective leads! I will definitely be linking all my sites to my Google + page (Have done so with a couple to now)...Cheers!

As I said above, it is still necessary to connect your website to Google+ and you do this within the training where Kyle instructs us to set up Google Authorship.

Though Google Authorship is dead the process of setting it up is actually the same as connecting your website to Google+. Authorship was only an option of website to Google+ connectivity.

Robert, Thanks for another great training. I am definitely a social media newb and have been stumbling around trying to figure out how to use it properly.
This training was a big help for me and, to be immortalized on page 5 of one of your trainings is also an honor!
Can't wait for your training of Facebook as, I have absolutely no idea what to do there which is odd because, according to my Google Analytics, I receive more traffic from there than any of my other social media but, It is the one I use the least

You are welcome Forrest. I figured you would probably like being seen in the image by all current and future WA members who read the training. :)

I'm happy you enjoyed the training and I will eventually be doing a training for both Facebook and Google+ in the near future.

Robert you killed this! Excellent work! You can take the amount of what I know about twitter and put it in the palm of your hand, but after reading this you may need a truck! Great teaching here Robert and very effective use of visuals and screenshots to reinforce the salient points

Such an important post. Have kept this to look at later as I'm in the middle of implementing something else. And I definitely want to come back to this. I've never quite "got" the appeal of Twitter but I know I need to be proficient in it as other do see the appeal (my husband included - he refuses to use Facebook but loves Twitter!) thanks for this. It's started to look at early next week. Sarah

Though I do not refuse to use Facebook, I do agree with your husband in that I would rather use Twitter over Facebook. And now that Twitter and Google have partnered, in that Twitter tweets are now being indexed into Google, it gives further reach for those who use Twitter for social media marketing than those who use any other social media network.

Yes, I momentarily forgot about the fact that Twitter is now a Google product. Time to get tweeting! Facebook is easy for me to implement anyhow as I'm knowledgeable about it. I have got that set-up more or less and so not much to do. But need to spend a bit more time figuring out Twitter. As you can see, I can be rather verbose, so 140 characters is a tough call for me!!

Yes, 140 characters is intimidating, especially for those of us that love to talk and have much to say. But once you start doing it, it becomes simpler and because it is short and to the point, more people tend to react to it more than a longer post from Facebook or Google+
