On this page we see how to give the final heave-ho to our annoying pingback and trackback problem. After you take the step detailed below your blog will be free of these Wordpress spam comments. So here goes.

Stop Pingbacks on new posts

There is actually only 1 step that you need to take to fix this problem. Now you should still be logged in to your Wordpress admin dashboard, but if for some reason you had logged out, then please log in again.

Now from the dashboard click on Settings, and then on Discussion. Look for where it says Default Post Settings and uncheck the boxes for "Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the post", and "Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new posts".

Once both boxes are unchecked, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Changes. Once the changes have been saved you will see a message telling you that this is so. So wait until you see that.

That's it. Your blog or website is now totally free of all Wordpress spam comments in the form of Pingbacks and trackbacks.

Final Note: The method shown for removing these types of spam comments have been proven to work on Wordpress version 5.3.2 Gutenberg.

That's it folks. I hope this training will be able to help other WA members who are struggling with this problem.

I hear that the plugin Word Fence is great for security.

Yes, I have heard of Word Fence too, but I'm really trying to stay at a minimum number of plugins on my site, and I found that this method works perfectly for me. Especially with the existing posts which were really getting a lot of comment spam. I also believe that Wealthy Affiliates provides adequate security for our sites.

The problem really is knowing that you need to disable that pingback and trackback setting early when you set up your blog, and if you didn't catch it early. Knowing how to disable it on posts that you've already written.

That's ok. No problem at all. I know i struggled a lot with the problem. I asked Site Support about it and in their usual lightning fast response they told me about disabling the pingback and trackback setting, but i was still getting this stuff on my older posts. So i found the solution to that. I think others might have the same problems with their existing posts too.

Have a great day.
