There are several basic things that you can do to help your blog content rank within the search engines. Although these factors play a part in ranking your posts, they don't guarantee results on there own. One of the most important things to remember when creating website content is that consistency plays a major roll. If you are constantly producing good quality content on a regular basis whilst using the following SEO techniques, then you will stand a much greater chance of ranking highly over someone that only produces content a couple of times per month.

Keywords

When creating content you need to directly communicate what it is about to both your human visitors and the search engines. The search engines do not have thousands of people that manually read each of your posts. Search engines scan your pages and posts with what are known as "spiders". The search engine spiders crawl every post and page on your website and attempt to make sense of what you have written before transmitting that information back to Google. It is therefore essential that you communicate the search term or phrase that you wish to rank for. There are several ways that you can do this...

  • Make sure your main keyword appears in both the title and the post description.
  • Try to include your main keyword within the first paragraph of your article.
  • Create an internal link with the exact keyword phrase from one of your older posts.
  • Include your main keyword in a subheading within the page or post.

Here is an example of using keywords in both the title and description. Here we are optimizing for the phrase "Doodly" and "Doodly Review". This is an example from a product review that I wrote some time ago.

The screenshot below is taken from the "Yoast SEO plugin" that I use to make this process much easier.
