Google+ is not one of my most favourite social media accounts as I find all Google “things” must be kept in one separate folder with a link to EACH Google account I own (MyBusiness, Google+, Google Analytics etc.). But until Google no longer controls the internet, we must learn to play nice with Google’s stuff.

So, here goes...

  • Fill in your Google+ profile in order to make you account stand out to potential followers.
  • Use your own image in your profile. Real human followers do not want to follow a faceless brand no matter the social media account.
  • Follow as many other people on Google+ as you can. In order to get followed here, you must follow others. As long as someone does not look like a spammer, be sure you always follow back those who follow you.
  • Once you have your Google+ account setup, look to the left-hand sidebar and click on People.
  • Across the top of the next page, you should see 3 options: Find People, Following and Followers. Click on Find People.
  • From the “Suggestions for you”, select who you wish to follow and then simply click on the FOLLOW text link offered below EACH individual Google+ account.
  • Once you have followed a few, you may want to create groups which in Google+ they are called “circles”. If so, then simply click on Following, and from the top, right of your “Following __” page, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the “NEW CIRCLE” text link. Add a title for your new circle and then click Create and VOILA, your new circle is created.
  • Check your “FOLLOWERS” page regularly to see if you have missed following someone who has followed you. Do check to make sure the new followers are active. I like to use a right-mouse click and open the account in a new tab to see if the account is active or not.
  • If you find a new FOLLOWER to follow, check out their postings, and you can 1+ the ones you like and share by clicking on the "<" symbol (bottom, right of EACH posting).
  • From the left-hand sidebar, click on Communities, and from the top of the page, search to find the type of community (or more) and to join, check it over to make sure, then simply click the FOLLOW button (left-hand) or better still... create a new community to gain more followers. Don’t forget to Tweet about your new community!
  • Post useful, fun and informative posts daily on your account.
  • Don’t be afraid to comment on other’s awesome posts shared! That too could get you noticed by their followers.
  • From the left-hand sidebar, click on “Discover” and search out the posts that most interest you. You can follow the account(s) that posted/shared any of the posts that interest you.
  • Mentioning influential people in your posts, but do NOT annoy or spam them, so make sure the mentioning is relevant to your post.
  • Make sure your website displays your Google+ account link.

Go back up to your list of people followed, click on the “FOLLOWING” text link, and the list of your new circles will appear. Simply select by checkmarking the box to the right of the circle you want your follower in, and then click on “DONE”.

Trish, this training is absolutely a treasure for me. Social media is still new territory to me. I have joined Google Plus, but have not got accustomed to it yet. The other week I joined Facebook, thanks to Bo Tipton I understand how it works a little bit.

I have bookmarked your training and I am going to study it thouroughly.

Trish, could it be that there was a glitch in the WA system and the training was not sent as a notification?

This training must go viral!!

Hey Pernilla,

There definitely is a glitch in the new layout... one that is effecting comments, blog posts, questions and training... and, Carson is busy working on resolving these issues.

Glad you enjoyed the tutorial.
