And three more points ...
9. Ping services
By default Wordpress uses only one ping service:
So, if you want to expand that list in order to use more services, you'll have to add them manually.
Simply paste the above list into the entry field and click "Save Changes".
What's the point? Well any time when you create a new content piece or something happens on your website, all these services will be automatically notified.
10. Permalink settings
The default Wordpress permalink looks like this:
http://yourdomain.com/p=123
Which doesn't make any sense for your visitors and to the search engines ... So, go to "Settings -> Permalinks", select the "Post name" option and click "Save Changes".
As a result your permalink will look like this ...
http://yourdomain.com/postname
... and choosing the right post names will help you to get more traffic and to rank higher in search engines.
11. Search engine indexing
The point: you need to define the indexing rule for your site.
In case that you don't know, the search engines can - and sooner or later they will - find your site while they are crawling the web. Now, if you don't want to develop your site locally and you are going to have a bunch of drafts and unfinished projects or content pieces on your live site, you need to prevent the search engines from indexing the raw content.
In order to to that, go to "Settings -> Reading" and check the box next to the "Search Engine Visibility" option:
And of course, don't forget to deactivate that box once you're done with the development phase ...
I have some questions:
The password that WA gives you is necessary to change it, when? In the section of permanent links the last 2 are:
-Name of the post
-Personalized Structure
What is the difference between the two?
If my site has categories, pages and post, which would you choose and why?
Thanks for your help.
Claudio
