Why Internal Linking is Good For SEO

The most important tool in SEO is internal linking. Why? It works.

Since the beginning of SEO, Google's machine learning algorithm has advanced a lot. It's almost impossible to cheat the system today.

Even though the algorithm may be complex, there are simple tweaks that can give you an immediate boost in search engine optimization without having to game the search engines.

One of these is internal linking. This is not a trick or a gimmick. It's also not difficult to do.

These are just a few of the many benefits.

1. Gets Google to Quickly index Your Site

Google Crawler tracks link paths across the web to find and index websites. Google Crawler will find new content faster if your website has strong internal links.

Google Crawler moves through internal links. Google’s robots constantly crawl the web looking for new content. Crawling is much faster if your content has multiple internal links.

Your content will also be indexed more quickly. Your SEO can be improved by indexing and crawling.

2. Increases the Backlink-Earning Potency of Deep Content Pages

Look at the origins of most backlinks to your website. There will be many links that direct users to your homepage. This is what you will see when you compare homepage backlinks with deep page backlinks.

Internal Linking Page and Deep Page

Too many backlinks to a home page are bad for SEO. This is called over-optimizing and should be avoided.

You want the pie chart reversed. Your home page should be the most prominent link in your list of external links. This is because your homepage may not contain the detailed information that users are looking for.

Ranking of Internal Linking Structure

The majority of links lead to social profiles, standard pages like "About" and "Contact." This has very little SEO value.

You can increase the link juice earning potential for internal pages by creating strong links. Why? You are increasing site crawl priority by distributing your links more widely.

3. Internal Linking Spreads the Strength of the Site to Internal Pages

Your website gets a link to the homepage when it receives some link value. Some of this link value is passed to internal pages. This is commonly referred to as the term "link juice".

Link Juice

The "link juice" from Page 1 linking to Page 2 will flow to Page 1, helping it rank higher on the search engine results pages (SERP). Search engines will rank websites that are well-organized (through internal linking).

4. SEO: Internal Linking with Optimized Anchor Text is a Good Idea

An internal link is simply a string of HTML linking one page to the next. However, internal links with anchor text are more valuable than those with images or navigational text.

Anchor text increases the link's value by adding keywords to the linking process. Google doesn't only look at the AHREF tag. Google is also looking at anchor text in that link.

Keyword stuffing anchor text is long gone. Optimizing your internal anchor texts is still a good idea. It is better to have anchor text that flows with the content than over-optimized.

5. It Adds Value to Your Users

This is the most important point. Yes, internal linking is an SEO technique. It's much more than that. Users find internal linking useful.

This is how it should be thought about:

  • Do you use one source for research on a topic?
  • Are you interested in exploring other content that upgrades your knowledge of the topic?
  • Perhaps you like the style of writing in the article and would like to see more work from the same author.

Internal linking to a site can increase the value of each piece by supporting claims and leading users to relevant information.

Although it might not directly drive conversions, internal linking is an important part of the marketing funnel. It helps people get to their target destination.

Internal linking can be a great way to increase trust and help readers stay longer on your site. SEO is not about technical tricks and sleuthing, but user optimization.

Even if internal linking isn't of technical importance, it should be done for the benefit of your users.

Hello Israel I ask you a question about internal links. The home page I would say is one of the most important in our website.
In a new article or page is it convenient to have a link to the home page and also to have a backlink?
I hope you have been able to understand the question.
Thank you Israel!

Very correct, Claudio! The homepage is the most important page on any website, yes. I think I perfectly understood your question, my friend. When you want to hit the Publish button for a new post or page, you don't have to necessarily link every new post or page to the homepage. It's better if you rather link to some crucial pages from your homepage for significant reasons.

If you need to earn backlinks, all you have to do is to link to external sites that are more authoritative than your own website. I hope I answered your question properly! If I didn't, kindly let me know, and I'll have another look into the question.
