A Reminder

That's it for this tutorial for how to block your own IP address in Google Analytics.

It's easy to set up and doing this will ensure that you have a more accurate view of your numbers.

As a reminder, check your IP address periodically.

The reason I thought of this tutorial was because I noticed that my own page views on my site were being tracked.

(How did I know? I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who would be on page 34 of my blog roll.)

Some IP addresses change from time to time.

I have noticed mine changes every few months.

So give it a check if you notice anything suspicious.

An Alternative

If you'd rather not deal with worrying about your IP address changing, and you want a different method to block your own page views from showing up in Google Analytics, Jovo (usename jvranjes) gave an alternative in the comments below.

You could use Google's Opt-Out Browser Add-On:

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

I haven't personally tested it myself, but I just wanted to give you the information.

That concludes this tutorial.

Thank you!

You might want to use Google Analytics opt out browser add-on and this will permanently solve the issue of the dynamic address. Easy steps.

Opt out browser add-on? Please tell me more. I don't know what that is! I'm sure that will help others reading this too.

Yes it will, this is the only way to deal with dynamic addresses, and they are mostly dynamic. So you might add this in the training. Just go to Google and type what I mentioned you will have it instantly, this is one of their standard tools. But ok here is the link

So it sounds like you could use this extension instead of manually filtering through analytics?

I will add this in the training as an option.

Thank you!

It is more a must than an option. IP addresses change all the time depending on the location, in the US it is usually weakly.

I'm in the US, and it's not that often for me. I know what you're saying though. They do change quite a bit.

Oh interesting. So my IP address probably changed when our power went out the other night.

I can not use this with my browser, I have EDGE. What should I do to opt-out with that? Any suggestions?
