How to attract attention?
What is attention?
Definition of William James, apsychologist:
"It is the taking possesion of the mind, in clear vivid form, or one out of what seems several simultaniously posible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration, or consciousness are of its essence. It implies withdrawing from some things in order to deal effectively with others."
In simple words:
Attention should be seen as a selection mechanism. Too much info comes at you, so your brain has to select. You focus your attention on something, and your brain starts processing that.
There are far too many incentives in our area. And our brains can't handle all that at a deeper level. They have to make choices, do you read more... or do you first check your phone for apps? To prevent the information that comes at us from going completely crazy, our brains have developed a system. Think of it as a filter, everything that goes through the middle hole it will pay attention to, the rest will pass by.
This way you can have a concentrated conversation with someone in a full room with people. You will only hear the buzz in the background. Everything completely passes you, until someone says your name, you will hear that again. That is relevant info.
You can make good use of this when you write an email campaign.

Yesterday I was on a games website and almost clicked on an ad because it looked so much like the games that were being displayed.
When I'm creating thumbnails for my videos I try to make them look different to everyone else's. It's also called "pattern interrupt".
