After you've requested an invitation

Once you have been sent an invitation you will be sent an email asking you to confirm. When you click on the link, and have confirmed your details you'lll immediately start the process of getting your account up and running.

1. Your interests

You have to click on a least one interest. It's up to you how many you decide to click on at this stage. I only chose one so that I didn't get bombarded with lots of suggestions at the next stage.

2. Following people

From the choices of interests the system automatically follows some people for you that they think you will like. I chose to unfollow all but a couple of their suggestions because I wanted to make my own choices. However, it really doesn't matter. You can follow and unfollow people whenever you like.

3. Create your first pinboards

Again the system will come up with some suggestions of boards you might like to create. You can either leave their suggestions and click on the blue create button or you can delete ones that you don't know.

If you leave ones that you're not going to use immediately they will still appear on your page as empty boards. I dont think this looks good and so I advise you to delete anyones that you don't want.

I deleted all their choices and decided on a board called Reduce everyday stress which is a keyword phrase in my niche.

4. Add the Pin It button to your bookmarks bar

What next?

You are now ready to start pinning, but first I would advise that you complete your company or personal profile.

An excellent walk through, I'd signed up awhile ago but hadn't paid much attention to it. Well after learning the full process in this tutorial, I could see I've been ignoring an awesome resource. As usual thank you so much for helping me to see it.

Thanks Todd. Let me know when you have time and want to start using it. As so many users on Pinterest are women it may be an ideal medium to promote some of your stuff.

Thanks for this. It is exactly what I need. I have put off getting involved because it represented one more thing to learn, and I'm so busy. Maybe I was growing it out of proportion. Now with your help, I can jump on board.

Thanks Jean. I hope that you find it helpful to get started. I'm currently working on a follow up so that when people have got to grips with the mechanics of Pinterest you can move on to making it work as an effective marketing strategy.

Beverley, I'm hooked on Pinterest. It's so much fun. Addicted. Now I have to use it wisely as a marketing strategy, though I did put my affiliate products in there with links to my site. I'm sure there's more
to know.

A wonderfully clear and concise piece.

Pinterest is continuing to evolve and has a user base that cannot be overlooked. It should be part of everyone's social marketing agenda's and your image selection (on your site or articles) should be considered in the context of their share factor.

Thanks Kyle. I think it's going to be interesting to see how it does involve. I think some people are going to ignore it because they see it predominantly as a 'women's network' which I think is unwise. I believe tthere are a lot of as yet untapped possibilities and I want to be part of that.

Yeah, being an early adopter will have long term benefits. Some items (pins) can get undeniable reach if they go viral. The world of repins is one that should be sought after.
