Good content writing starts with you, so if you don't like what you've written then chances are your audience won't either.
Your writing needs to inspire you if you want to inspire your audience.
You are the first person to convince, if you can't convince yourself...
The best part of good content writing is that you can edit it until you get it the way you want to. Unlike a conversation you do get a second, third, fourth chance to take back what you have said (in a post of course).
Now this step is a step I cannot over emphasise. Read and reread your content to not only check for grammatical errors but to see if what you have written makes sense.
Let me repeat that, you need to reread everything you write - 20 times is not too many times! Edit it often even after you have published your post.
Get a friend or family member (if you can) to read your work and see if they understand what you have written. Does it make sense? If they can't understand what you have written then it's likely that other people won't get what you are trying to convey.
You will find that sometimes what you were thinking and what you write may be totally different. Words will be dropped (although in your head you will think you wrote a complete sentence) or what you thought was the correct word isn't spelled correctly.
Always use a spell/grammar checker to catch the obvious mistakes but you will still need to check your work to make sure it is clear and that what you are trying to convey is being understood.
Why is your first sentence so important?
Because that is what most search engines see and show, although you can change that, but that is a different tutorial.
Make sure your first sentence tells everyone what it is you are trying to do. It might be a long sentence, so if all of your content was lost the first sentence must be able to stand on it's own.
This is where research is your friend. Look at posts in your niche on the web and see which content grabs your attention and then find a sentence that resonates with you. You can then take that sentence and re-write it in your own style.
Catch phrases or hooks can work but be careful because whatever title you use you'd better be able to back it up or you will lose people very fast.
A catch phrase is usually a well-known sentence or a line from a movie/book/theatre show etc. They can also be adapted to suit your purposes, here is one; 'I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse'.
A hook is usually a question that entices a person to read further; 'Do you know the secret to instant wealth?' Although it can be a statement too; 'The secret to making $400 today is within these next few pages'.
Research is very important.
Research is very important especially if you feel you are not a good writer. Yes, it takes work (be aware that in order for you to be successful you will have to work) and time but it will never be a waste of time. When you become competent at researching (it is a necessary skill you need to develop) your niche, your writing will become more natural.
Focus on your audience.
Remember who you are and what people will be drawn in by your content. You will attract people who are similar to you that is why you write material as though you are sharing it with your best friend. They will most likely be your audience.
How to add links to your post.
When writing content to your website you need to 'pepper' your article with products that you sell. Tell a story that will lead them to a purchase, more story, another purchase and so on. (The product can be the same one all the way through your post).
Your story needs to flow naturally around the products you are trying to sell.
If you only put ads in your side bar, apart from people can't be bothered to go there, if anyone uses an ad blocker they won't even see your ads.
Following is a quick tutorial (you heard that right, quick tutorial!) on how to create Call to Action buttons (CTA's) for your post;
Do you know how to create a call to action button on Wealthy Affiliate?
Shops are different
If you have an aStore or similar then people are naturally expecting to be sold to. This is where thoroughly researched reviews are vital to make you stand out from the crowd.
If you don't make sales, it may not be your post it maybe that you don't have enough organic traffic.
I would like some feedback to help me write better tutorials, so if you see something here that isn't clear please let me know so that I can improve this tutorial. That would be truly appreciated. If you think something is missing from here please let me know or you can PM me.
My last and most important point;
Write, write, write, write, write, write, you get the idea. It's the only way to get good at this. Don't worry if you suck at this, we all sucked at this so just get on and write.
If you have managed to read this tutorial, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because I know how busy you all are and this one was a long one, sorry. Thank you!
All comments and likes inspire me (who isn't inspired when people get involved in your work?) to create better tutorials for you to have a better online experience. Oh did I mention that I would love for you to comment here, well I would.
Ask any questions and I will respond.
Think what helped me most of all when learning to write posts is when I started my personal blog. By then, I already knew enough (from taking Desktop Publishing) to make sure to state my rants so that I would be LESS apt to suffer a lawsuit ... and I learned how to (as you stated) write though speaking to a friend with lots and lots of practice.
p.s. I don't think I should attempt to write as a comedian not just yet anyhow.
Cheers
Kristy
One thing I have found to gain trust when writing on certain subjects, mainly opinion pieces, is to make sure that you reference your material at the bottom (web pages, books, articles, and so on) of the page so if one of your readers wants to see whether or not you are worthy of your words.
Keep up the great training!
